The sluggish controlls, boring missions, wandering around for ages with no action and nothing happening..................
Yup, from the insepid 16 bit originals to the recent San Andreas the GTA series has to be the most over rated games series ever.

Well, you can change the controls, Mr. Whiney. Why did you post this? If you don't like it, don't play it, you aren't going to convince people that it sucks just because you don't enjoy it.

No, i'm not going to change peoples minds and i'm not trying to.
However, i am entitled to my opinion the same way as you (or anyone else) are entitled to tell everyone how great the game is. Wouldn't it be boring if everyone had the same opinions?
Oh and the game would still be sluggish and clumsy no matter how the controlls were set up.
Finally, i don't hate the game i just think it's very, very over rated and still no one has told me exactly why it's so great.............

well, there is basically nothing to get, its basically a time wasting game, which is why it is so popular, you can relax by killing innocents, pimping prosies on the street gettin chased by the cops, SWAT teams and the military etc etc, i only did the missions when i had pissed around the whole island for like 2 months lol, as for the controls, personally theyr not that bad, could be better and for the "no action" you can get as much action with the cops etc in about 2 seconds on the streets Lol. its a simple game,

As for the over rated bit, maybe its not your type of game, but it has sold MILLIONS everyone who owns a PS2 or Xbox has atleast one copy of the hugely popular GTA series games.

i do have to say that i have been disappointed with the GTA series so far. i also find it humourous that so many people whine about graphics, yet the GTA games are hugely hyped with their pretty average graphics. Now, don't get me wrong, i still play 'San Andreas' every once in a while, and i have high hopes for GTA IV, i simply think there are many finer games out there besides GTA.

i think that GTA is a proven series that has lasted and always improved on its countless predesescors by using superb marketing techniques and gameplay options, Rockstar also knows how to create a realistic vibe and make you feel like part of the world they have placed you in. I don't see where you can say the missions are boring, they let you do things that you would never do (legally) in the real world. Overall i think the GTA series is a great series that has not only kept gamers hooked, but it has shaped the world of gaming as we know it.

Jules: Normally, both your asses would be dead as fucking fried chicken, but you happen to pull this shit while I'm in a transitional period so I don't wanna kill you, I wanna help you. But I can't give you this case, it don't belong to me. Besides, I've already been through too much shit this morning over this case to hand it over to your dumb ass.

Open-ended, non-linear, varied gameplay in a large and (relatively highly) interactive 3D environment. With a great soundtrack too and the ability to play your own MP3s in-game. And skin your character.

This is GTA3 I'm talking about. And you can gun down innocent people, gun down cops in a city environment. Cars, bikes, boats, planes, gang fights, hookers, flamethrowers, carjacking, stunts, mindless ultra violence. The game fused genres in a way that hadn't been done before. With a sense of humour, too. There was nothing else like it when this game was released. Absolutely nothing else like it.

I was personally disappointed with San Andreas and the direction the series took, but the series has expanded the gaming landscape. What other games resemble GTA without having been influenced by GTA? You don't have to like the series, but you have to acknowledge the indisputable fact the series broke new ground. The series was groundbreaking!

I'm not a fan of Command & Conquer. I just don't like it. However, I can understand why so many people rate it so highly and why it features in many "best games of all time" lists. But it just doesn't appeal to me.

I don't understand why the OP cannot do two things at once: respect the series without being a fan of the series.
