I'm waiting for you to post somewhere else so that I can see if you're purposefully being musically ignorant or if you're just ignorant.
This is like a dog chasing it's tail. The "Pop" I'm referring to is the genre oriented toward mindless mass appeal and commercial success. The KEY word there being "commercial". I'm not suggesting the Sex Pistols did not have those two, but unlike KP, how many 10-12 year old girls has anyone EVER heard humming a Sex Pistols tune? And don't grab some obscure instance and hold that up as proof.

I really hated to go to this place, but felt overwhelmed after seeing where all this misplaced angst was coming from.

Likewise.
At any point did you receive any blatant "Blow me", or "Troll" comments? Sure, Mormon/Republican but that's more likely than your examples...

Okay so let me see, Blakenfield feels that Katy Perry's music is mindless pop music and when he says pop he's referring to strictly top 40 music that is popular. Because it's mindless pop music we should ignore the homophobia shown in her lyrics and also how it promotes girls kissing other girls for fun.
I'm not really feeling you Blakenfield, do you think we should ignore the sexist messages prevalent in popular rap music?

- It's spelled "Blankenfeld" - I'm saying don't read into it so much. Sure it might appears to you as homophobic and promoting deviant behavior. But if you don't like it, don't listen to it. And avoid trying to turn it into more than it is. Same goes for the sexist messages prevalent in popular rap music. Don't listen to it. But don't get all "Westboro Baptist Church" about it and preach about it's deep dark intentions when there are none.

Wait, after Eric made a great post, we are still arguing and have turned this into a foul, crude, pointless name-calling hissy fit? It's time for a pow-wow. Let's see if we can start talking about the thread and move on from all of the BS.

"Know thine enemy." Simply because I did some research in an effort to better understand the source of an increasingly nasty discourse only means I wanted to be prepared for whatever happened. This "...hiding behind anonymity" is really a barb your throwing? At what point was I supposed to say, "Hi! I'm so-and-so..." And since you've gotten into this discussion, why don't you tell me who you are? (Not that I care.) Does it even matter? And I'm waiting for another "Blow me" jab. Or perhaps another "Troll" across my bow might make you feel better? Come on. I know you wanna......

It's a good thing Skrewdriver never had a top 40 hit!

Up until the attacks on Blankenfeld, I thought this was a half decent discussion. I don't see anything trollish about his initial post. It's a valid point. Mike, I think you ought to let JGlass fight his own battles. He's an adult now.

well, almost all replies should fit in the "define pop" thread because almost nobody's talking about Katy Perry. I would like to see a Girlicious thread and i would probably read in the last post of the fourth page: "Yeah, Miles Davis started it all but Michael Jackson had an awesome leather outfit..."

Agreed. The bizarre thing is that I'm not so sure anyone in the thread, even Blankenfeld, is saying Katy Perry is actually good. Maybe I should just state that Katy Perry sucks and close the thread. 'Nuff said.

Oh, you are such a troll. Before we close it, I think we can all agree that Katy Perry is pretty hot. OK, thread closed.
