I suspected this would happen sooner or later!

I spent months and months arguing that indie was not a style of music, more a statement of record label status and a DIY ethic. Eventually I gave up. Now I find myself describing indie as a style of music for argument's sake, which has caused others to debate the validity of that description in the same way as my original argument. Cruel Irony...

Your argument makes a lot more sense now, although whether an artist has paid their dues is fairly irrelevant in how good the music is. We all love the drama of seeing an underdog struggle and succeed in music but sadly, they often struggle simply because they are crap and the audience knows it.

Additionally, there is no one rule that says you have to write your own material. As a musician, I would love to have someone churning out hits for me, but it costs too much so I sit up till the early hours overcoming writer's block. There seems to be an aversion to having a songwriter as a seperate entity - I suppose people feel it's a bit like 'cheating'. In the general scheme of things, I don't really care as long it's good music. Consequently, I don't really care about Avril.

On that I think we both agree.

Imagine everything I say as if it were being spoken to you with the voice of Joe Pesci.

Vote Jamshed.

You're right, Coldplay is incredibly predictable banality. I used to think they were ignorable, but now they offend my delicate sensibilities. Thanks for pointing that out.
So you're Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers? No wonder you like Avril. Didn't you tour with her?

I knew someone would see that. But no, I got my name from my real name, "Nick" and the Weezer song, "my name is Jonas." I didn't even know Nick Jonas until another member pointed it out.
How do you even know about the Jonas Brothers? How often do you watch Disney channel? Did you see "Camp Rock"?

No, but it's number 5 on the Billboard Top 200 right now... lord, have mercy.

I missed this one. Thanks for the interest and the kind words and smiley faces. I live in Canterbury in the United Kingdom.

I shall now hand this thread back over to Miss Lavigne and her generic pop-punk music.
