You're in some fine company, there. They at least chose a reasonably appropriate subforum for their spam.
Now Playing: "Fumble" Architecture in Helsinki Fingers Crossed (Bar/None) <-- After all the raves Sweetie's been giving it, it's finally up on Rhapsody and doesn't disappoint. BEPphunk, if you were a music fan rather than a corporate shill, you could learn a thing or two from our Mr. McGuck about how to show sincere, informed enthusiasm about good music.

Hello Mr. Phunky person (I assume you like Phish),
Black Eyed Peas are nice and all. Their first album was okay. However, you know what bands are all the rage at my school, and every school in Ontario, Canada? I'll tell you:
- Spacemen 3 - Bark Psychosis - Swervedriver - KMD - Television Personalities - The Books - Xiu Xiu
Why, I can't go ten minutes a day in my school without hearing, "Woah! I totally dig Spacemen 3, Bark Psychosis, Swervedriver, KMD, Television Personalities, The Books and Xiu Xiu. It sucks how Mr. Hood by KMD and Mezcal Head by Swervedriver are out of print, though, and how you can't find any of those bands in stores here in Ontario, Canada, in the Best Buy on Mavis and in the HMV in Square One. If, say, Universal reissued those albums and started giving those bands a wider distribution in those areas, I would totally buy them."
And then I say, "Me too, man, me too." And then people behind me and all over the place repeat it, and then we break out into song and dance begging major labels to distribute bands that we've so wanted to hear.
Then again, we're Canadian, so I doubt we mean anything to you and you obviously have no input into what Universal stocks.
Anyhow, thanks for reading and I hope I have better luck finding CDs I want to see in HMV and Best Buy than seeing the shelves stocked with homogenized products that I've heard countless times before.
Your friend, ~ Monheim
P.S. Read my post carefully and notice that I *wink* am *wink* winking *wink*.

It's funny how there are actually a bunch of douches who actually make bands like BEP popular.
In our happy little indie world, hatred for BEP is COMPLETELY UNANIMOUS. Seriously, not one person is like "hey, it's not so bad". With most bands, a few people will disagree, but not something so unbelievably boneheaded as this. We'd be more likely to find a Limp Bizkit fan here than a BEP fan, with the exception of mr street team.
But, there are seriously people out there listening to Elephunk, saying to themselves "I am listening to hip hop. I am trendy." These people just don't take music listening seriously. I know, it's crazy; not putting all of one's effort into music listenership?

Thank you, linntate for recognizing me as a legitimate member of this message board. Before I saw this thread, I made a thread (which nobody has replied to yet *teardrop*) in the jazz forum, much like this one.
I made it because I, and at least one other member of this forum (see the best of 04 thread), really like "Junk Magic" by Craig Taborn. I think it's a great album that deserves any attention it gets. Also, I think the metacritic music editor should put it on the site.
The point is, I'm not a street team member, and I feel like I have to prove that after reading what's left of this thread. Do any jazz artists have street teams?

I hadn't considered that, mark. Given the similarity of their messages (templates), I figured each individual shill would grab an artist and spam away. It would be just as easy to assign one person to one forum. Oh, great. Now I'm feeding them ideas.

Dry your eyes, Sweetie. I should have ordered a copy of the Taborn album weeks ago and I corrected that mistake Friday, so I should have it in hand this week. You didn't steer me wrong on El-P or Architecture in Helsinki and from the few samples I've heard, I expect the Taborn is going to be one of my favorite albums of the year. I just didn't want to comment on it until I'd heard it.
Jazz in general is not represented very well on Metacritic, but I think that says more about the sad state of affairs in the world of new music in the genre than anything else. A number of the sources Metacritic draws from review jazz including Pop Matters and All Music, but it's so inconsistent as to make Metascoring difficult, I would think. Perhaps, though, it's a blessing in disguise. If the major labels were giving more new jazz artists a chance, they probably would be spamming us as well.
From what we've seen around here, the shills that are spamming us generally sign up and open up a half-assed thread that tries to drive traffic to a corporate site. Your two months and eighty-eight (and counting) smart posts make it clear that you don't have it in you to be anything other than a smart, savvy voice around here and if I gave you any other impression, I apologize.

the member classifications (slacker, slacker first class, participant, etc) really come in handy in situations like this. "slackers" like douchie above will be more likely to be obliterated by the moderators.
really, this message board is great compared to most I've seen. the usual message board is just an avalanche of retarded posts with sig lines that are gigantic and gaudy. although I sometimes want to be able to post pics, I know that some people abuse the privilege.

Don't Worry Mr. McGuck ... besides just moderating I read the posts, and who is posting them. I, at least, know that you are a "legit" poster at the forums.
I would never mess with someone's post unless it was completely obvious what was going on, for example if they (1) blatantly mention that they work for the record company, (2) blatantly point out the record company's program that gives out free crap for spamming the internet about the artist and (3) write template posts that always sound similar.
I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from genuinely posting about something they like ... also, I have pointed out elsewhere that we do have a thread for streaming audio, video and downloads, so if someone wants to advertise a band by posting in that thread about a website where music or videos are available, that is perfectly fine, and that is the place where that is appropriate.
I am going to defend them a little bit here by saying that they are nowhere near as bad as Limp Bizkit. Whether you like the Black Eyed Peas or not, at least they are sincere, unlike say, Fred Durst. Also, the solo album by Will i Am, called Lost Change is excellent! I think it was made as a soundtrack to a film, has great instrumental tracks on par with guys like Boom Bip and Rjd2, a guest spot from Planet Asia and perhaps the best packaging/cd case I have ever purchased. Yes, Elephunk is dripping in sappy positivity that can be extremely grating, but it has been a long time since someone in the mainstream of "hip-hop" attempted to bring that positive aspect back. I won't begrudge them for that. Plus I have seen them live twice and they were very good both times. The first was at a Warped Tour I think, and they got a much better reception than Eminem did! Just because this band is in the mainstream people feel the need to shit on them, personally there are tons of bands on the radio that hurt my ears more than them, but that's just me. For what it's worth I see little difference from Oasis to Coldplay to (I'm sure you'll all love this one) Radiohead, it's all boring, monotonous, pretentious and derivative to my ears. If you are listening to The Roots, what's so different from the Black Eyed Peas? Sure, Where is the Love? is one of the most godawful songs in a while, but dueting with Justin Timberlake can do that to anyone! Besides, I have seen people on here mention enjoying Avril Lavigne and Ashlee Simpson, Black Eyed Peas are cheesy, but not THAT bad!

Smenhk...most of don't specifically dislike the BEP per se...we just didn't appreciate their "street" promotional department spamming these boards the way they did.

Black Eyed Peas...blow hard.Thay are terrible...and represent what is really wrong with music today. As in trying to cash in on a fad.Commercial hip-pop...is terrible and there are many other artists that are in the same boat. What makes it even worse is the fact that will-i-am showed some promise on his solo work.But...comparing it too boom bip or rjd2 is a stretch...there may be some instrumental tracks...but thats where the comparisons end.

50 Cent is possibly the worst rapper I've ever heard. MC Paul Barman has this guy beat so hard. "In Da Club" is terrible, and is one of the cheesiest beats ever, with the exception of "Where Is The Love". The guy apparently was in the middle of eating a sandwich when he recorded the vocals. He actually makes Eminem sound talented.

Oh well, we are taking the scenic route home. My high school students played his last one in class, with my permission, burned long before it was released. When I told them, after each song, what a rip-off they all were, it made me feel like I actually know something about rap. All I really know is from the kids, but it was obvious that 50 Cent didn't have an original idea to express at all. I guess the kids love him because of all the bullets he walks around with.

Wait, wait, wait! Paul Barman! That guy only sounded half decent because he had Prince Paul on deck! His flow is terrible and he can't match his rhymes to the beat to save his life! Humour and vocabulary seem to be crutches for Barman, he has no real rapping skills to speak of. I'd say that he and Bizarre from D12 don't even deserve to be called rappers! People like 50 Cent because of Dre's beats, and the sing along style chorus's. 50 is appealing to the lowest common denominator, but MC Paul Barman is just plain unappealing! I own his first ep, as I am a big Prince Paul fan, and I would love to have an instrumental version of it to rid my memory of Barman's lame attempts at wit and flow. I mean, come on, he gets upstaged by Princess Superstar!
