Ok, let me just start by saying that I really dislike all those "oldie party favourite songs" like "Walking on Sunshine", but there were some OK pop songs from the 70s. Im talking about real pop here, not stuff like Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd.

Anyway, my top pop song of the 70s award goes to Kate Bush for "Wuthering Heights" in 1978.

First of all, Walking on Sunshine was squarely in the mid-80s, so I think your calibration is a little off. How about "Start Me Up" by the Stones, or "Do ya Think I'm Sexy" by Rod Stewart (the # 1 song on "Solid Gold '79"'s countdown... yes, it's sad that I can remember that....)

I didnt know Walking on Sunshine was 80s. I guess I mentioned it because I wanted people to think along the lines of songs that arent considered to be "oldie party favourites" and gave that as an example.

How about "Le Freak" by Chic? That always did it for me.

So many ...of course some of these are very cheesy so I understand if others don't agree, but I was a little kid ...

ABC - The Jackson Five
Let It Be - The Beatles
Joy to the World - Three Dog Night
Just My Imagination - The Temptations
Let's Stay Together - Al Green
Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye
Killing Me Softly With His Song - Roberta Flack
Seasons in the Sun - Terry Jacks
Bennie and the Jets - Elton John
Fame - David Bowie
A Fifth of Beethoven - Walter Murphy
Fernando - ABBA
Dancing Queen - ABBA
Mamma Mia - ABBA
Knowing Me, Knowing You - ABBA
Night Fever - The Bee Gees
Stayin' Alive - The Bee Gees
You're the One That I Want - John Travolta & Olivia Newton John
Grease - Frankie Valli
Heart of Glass - Blondie
You're So Vain - Carly Simon
Kung Fu Fighting - Carl Douglas
Top of the World - The Carpenters
Imagine - John Lennon
I Think I Love You - The Partridge Family
Pop Muzik - M
Tears of a Clown - Smoky Robinson

EDIT: I realize now that some or even a lot of these might fall into "oldie party favorites," especially the ABBA songs. But I don't attend many parties where 70s songs are played, so I don't know exactly what would qualify and what wouldn't, with the exception of "YMCA" which is NOT on my list. So I'm just leaving everything on, and you can disregard the standards.

Well, the thing about pop songs is that they're "popular.' So for me, that means on the radio. I'm going to scratch the surface, so hopefully, this won't turn into one of my boring rantings. These are definitely not my favorite songs from the 70s, but the ones I heard on an-almost-daily basis (luckily for you, I'm going to give up at a certain point, and I'm going to try to omit "losers" or those that have been mentioned.)

Aerosmith- Dream on
Aerosmith- Walk This Way
Aerosmith- Sweet Emotion
Heart- Barracuda
Heart- Dreamboat Annie
Queen-Killer Queen
Queen- Bohemian Rhapsody
Neil Young- After the Goldrush
Elton John- Crocodile Rock
Elton John- Levon
Elton John- Daniel
Elton John- Funeral For a Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding
Eagles-Desperado
Eagles- Peaceful Easy Feeling
Doobie Brothers- China Grove
Doobie Brothers- Jesus is Just Alright
Steely Dan- Reelin' in the Years
Steely Dan- Do it Again
Steely Dan- Rikki Don't Lose That Number
Roxy Music- Love is the Drug
Linda Ronstadt-Blue Bayou
Linda Ronstadt- You're No Good
Linda Ronstadt- It's So Easy
Fleetwood Mac- Go Your own Way
Paul McCartney and Wings- Band on the Run
Wings- Jet
McCartney- Maybe I'm Amazed

OK, I know I'm leaving off hundreds. Come on, chip in!

At least I have ten of those on vinyl. Does that make me good or bad?

It makes me think you haven't changed residences nearly as many times as I.

Either that, or you've got much stronger arm, shoulder and back muscles.

Five years ago, after about the sixth go-around of lugging those many boxes of vinyl to a new home, I got fed up and dumped the entire collection.

The only thing I saved was a Canadian import copy of "Delights" by Ian Thomas.

Holy Gasp! I've "lost" plenty of mine through the years, but yeah, I've only had six residences since the last major dump took place in about 1980. I'm pissed about losing many of those too.

Also, "Who Loves the Sun" by the Velvets, and 'jumpin Jack Flash" by the Stones.
