Question:
What was the WORST Pop album in 2004? (Do not define "bad" as "low metascore")

Choices:
Good Charlotte - THE CHRONICLES OF LIFE & DEATH
Lenny Kravitz - BAPTISM
Ashanti - CONCRETE ROSE
Dirty Vegas - ONE
Janet Jackson - DAMITA JO

My vote went to Ashanti's "Concrete Rose", full of Pop trash R&B

I haven't really heard any of them.

Thusly, I'll refrain from voting.

Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat

This is one of those albums where I don't have to hear it to know if it is awful. I heard a bit of Gallowbird's Bark, and immediately resolved to dismiss everything this band ever puts out unless they kick Eleanor Friedberger out of the band.

NERD - Fly or Die

Borderline-retarded Good Charlotte members Joel and Benji Madden guest on this. Pharrell is trippin' insane scrotum.

Eminem - Encore

Eminem puts out the same album he put out all the other times, and the critics finally get around to realizing that it sucks. The sample on the chorus of "Like Toy Soldiers" seriously freaked me out. Too bad the rest of the song and album are horrid. I must admit, even though Eminem probably didn't pick the sample or have anything to do with it making the album, I consider the sheer WTFness of it to be a strange anomaly in the discography of one of the least talented rappers ever to become the biggest star in the world.

You're both off your chumps....now, I want the two of you to get down on your lousy stinking knees and pay proper homage to the auditory glory that is to be found in all 73 minutes of Blueberry Boat!!!

Just my opinion....

by the way, I voted for (against?) the Good Charlotte album.

My teenage daughter's friends think that band is the be-all end-all.

However, young Miss Snopes fights the good fight, countering with healthy doses of the Lucksmiths and Merrymakers.

(That's my kid!!!)

It's only 73 minutes? It felt like at least 700....

Ah, that would be the Japanese Import version, w/ special bonus tracks.

Wink

Not surprising from a band whose new EP is 10 songs long!

But kuods to you, flem_snopes, for turning your daughter on to good pop like the Lucksmiths and Merrymakers instead of merely accepting that she'll like what the other kids like...

Actually, I can't really take much of the credit.

After I took her to that first Lucksmiths concert, she sort of glommed onto the scene on her own.

She just waits for me to buy a bunch of new CD's, then she swipes what she wants.

I'm still waiting for "Bubblegun" and "Naturaliste" to re-emerge from her bedroom dungeon.

Totally agree with this pick. Some naive critic put it as their number one album of '04...Yikes!!

Eminem - Encore

I seem to be the only one here at Metacritic to GENUINELY like Eminem. I didnt like "Encore" very much not because it occured to me Em was producing the same album every year but because it occured to me that he has yet to find something else to say. I still admire his storytelling abilities ("Crazy in Love" and "Mockingbird" are good tracks...cmom) but think his bad ass attitude is becoming tired. Stop making fun of people Slim, continue evolving the intruiging story of Marshall, Eminem, and Slim Shady. Maybe the -point and laugh- bits are part of the evolution, but it's simply not grabbing me. I'm in the minority here, I know this. You all think he's an overblown hack who is one of the "Least Talented Rappers...Ever". This to me brings upon much WTFness. Surely you've seen "8 Mile" and surely you liked it???

I haven't heard any of those albums, so I can't fairly call ANY of them the worst album of the year, but I will say that Lenny Kravitz song "Lady" (ubiquitous from those Gap ads and commercials for Alias) is one of the worst songs (both musically and lyrically) currently playing on the radio. That is one awful track.

8 mile blew ass.

If you want to see a talented rapper freestyle.

Rent any of the serie sof scribble jams that contain sage francis.Or any of them for that matter.

The extra freestyling that was contained as bonus fotage...was terrible also.

The only good thing about 8 mile is it had that one song as a single that finally beat out 'i just dont give a fuck' as the best eminem track.I think. They are close.

i will have to agree with you friend that is why i had to vote for lenny instead of gc although it was a close match we expect gc to be crap , althought lenny aint a genuis he can come up with some decent genericness sometimes and of course i liked 5 cause it seemed like he was listening to something that was made past 1974, it was a hard choice , i dont know why everyone is hating on eminem i love him and ill admit hes been slippin somethin bad lately but you guys act like you never liked him wich i dont believe.

I liked infinite.

And the slim shady lp...somewhat.

But after that...it is mostly trash...and everything he touches either on the mic or producing. Is extremely bad and very boring. His brooding style of production has gotten very old very fast.

His voice is even becoming tiring.

But then i also think about seeing footage of him in
