yah...quite weired I may say..undoubtedly, MJ is the only King of Pop and nobody can replace him in that. But maybe in the next generations there would be someone who can surely better or equal his talent, we cannot say, a lot of people idolizes him and immitates his moves and one of those who admires him may be the next MJ.
Jackson's music has steadily declined since he dropped Quincy Jones to the point of total irrelevancy as an artist now. Michael Jackson without Quincy Jones is like George Lucas without Gary Kurtz, egos out of control with nobody there to tell them when an idea is ridiculous. Hopefully MJ will stay in Dubai where they have no laws against inappropriate relations with children, out of sight, out of the tabloids, and of course out of mind!

Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous. Michael Jackson is the king of pop, but much like the king of rock and roll, his latter years have been an absolute shame. MJ is no longer relevant, but that cannot take away the albums that he put out.
As far as all this talk of touching children, and the legality of it in Bahrain, well...I haven't done any research on the matter, so I don't feel right in commenting. But, I am fairly positive that there isn't a place on Earth where it is okay to be inappropriate with children.
Yay! I appreciate your dark sense of humor, and cynicism, and normally I would laugh heartily at that one, but when it comes to children, I don't think molestation or mistreatment is anything to laugh about. I am a new-ish father, so maybe I am clouded by the thought of something like that happening to my daughter.
But back to MJ. Regardless of his past with children, his music shines on. We are already seeing his influence on Pop music, and decades from now he may suffer from Led Zeppelin syndrome. Meaning, like Zep, his influence will be so great, that nearly every artist will come off sounding like a Michael Jackson knock-off.
Or maybe his personal life and poor judgement will cloud the minds of Pop music listeners. I guess only time will tell.
hmmm...artistically and in terms of cold sales figures...nobody touches the man...three of his albums have sold above 30 million copies worldwide...i'm not even go into the performance aspect of it...as for the relevance factor...it's not quincy jones or anything else that did it but his own infrequency in producing albums regularly and most importantly he never kept in touch with the progress of pop culture...his wierdness made him culturally irrelevant to a certain extent...but musically i can't think of anyone who's even in the same bracket as MJ..hats off to him (no pun intended)
guys.. don't you think that it's hard to compare MJ and any other artist.. Thriller is now sold over 104 million copies.. it's a great achievement.. no artist will ever sold the same number of copies..
Why aren't there more posts in this thread? Thriller is somewhere in my Top 50 All-Time list.
I don't really care about what the man does with his personal time and am of the opinion that it is still plausible to talk about Michael Jackson while ignoring his various controversies.
BTW, I was tired of looking at the "Britney" thread and was trying to find something to 'bump,' I noticed that there isn't a whole lot under 'pop' that I'm interestid in.

I have always liked Michael Jackson’s music, including his stuff with Jackson 5. I think that Thriller is one of the top 20 albums of all time and I also really love Off the Wall and Bad. I have never posted in this thread but I let that be pretty well known in the other forums.
I don’t know about you guys but I think that “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” is one of the best “pop” songs of all time—easily. I have much love for his music; he is an amazing singer and I really like a lot of his music from the early 80s and like I said, the stuff he did with his brothers as well—I especially have soft spots for “Never Can Say Goodbye” (another perfect pop song) and “Ben.”

He is supposed to be making a comeback later this year (probably not gonna happen), backed by Pharell and Timbaland. But then again, Pharell and Timbaland were also heavily involved with Madonna's "Hard Candy", and we all know how that turned out So I hope they don't **** it up for him.
That said, I am a firm believer that every one of MJ's albums are awesome, just in different ways. When people hear his newer songs, they "expect" his 80's style subconsciously, and get disappointed. For example, I think Invincible is one of the top albums of 2001; but because it was too much R&B, people thought he fell off, when in reality a lot of R&B artists were influenced by Invincible and ripped off its style. If you EXPECT R&B, you will be satisfied. Either way, how can you ignore joints like "Rock My World", "Whatever Happens" and "Heartbreaker"?
