His "work" with N SYNC was awful, but he seems to make great music in his solo career. "Sexyback" and "...My love" feat. T.I. are two great damn songs. But the singles on "Justified" were less intereting. Any comments?
I just got his new album and I'm really impressed. Kind of regretting that I hadn't listened to this before making my year end list... all the tracks are really solid with some stand outs like My Love and Lovestoned, which sound like some pop opera from the future.
Justin Timberlake does a decent job, but make no mistake - this is Timbaland's album. His production really makes the album what it is. It's definitely one of his bests, and there really is no one better at what he does.

I agree wholeheartedly. The tracks on the album that weren't produced by Timbaland aren't very good.

Agreed agreed agreed. MY LOVE isn't much but a sappy love song without Timabland's masterful production. Not to the quite the extent, but the same can be said for "Promiscuous Girl" by Nelly Furtado.
OK, so how good is this album really? I've been toying with buying it, but pop really isn't my style. I don't really go past James Brown and Michael Jackson.
But I don't write off entire genres of music, I can readily accept that pop can be really good, as can rap, and country, which are two genres that I also have a limited interest in.
Is this a masterwork, or is just a passing fancy type thing?

I don't listen to a lot of pop either. I wouldn't call Futuresex/Lovesounds a masterwork, but despite it's flaws, the first half or so is pretty solid.

JT is a guilty pleasure for me. Some of his songs are great ("My Love") and those make up for the less entertaining tracks. I am in agreement with Eric in that it isn't particularly a masterpiece, but it is still good nonetheless.

I hate how if he weren't as good looking as he is he wouldn't be as successful. So, it's crazy to me that his music will live on soley on his looks. It's so sad.
He makes me cringe. He's corny when he speaks, and he's too self aware of his good lucks.
So what? You can say the same about Britney or Paris or Jessica Simpson. What makes it so awful that he's going to be remembered for that when plenty of female musicians can get by on their looks alone, too.
Plus, some of his songs are actually decent.

The guy definitely gets cool points for "Dick in a Box."

I doubt Justin Timberlake’s or anyone’s music will live on solely because of their good looks.
JT seems like he’d be a pretty down to earth type of guy. You’d have to expect him to come off some-what confidant considering he has to perform in front of thousands of people for a living.

Eh, it could be that he is down to earth, it doesn't take away from the fact that he is CORNY. Also, he tries to act black - it's not needed. Plus, his music has been dope because of his linkage to The Neptunes and Timbaland, which then brought Danja on board. All those links came about not because he showed such musical superiority in NSYNC but because he was a good-looking marketable guy. If he had been an average looking Joe, you all wouldn't have been listening to him.
There's something about him that seems so contrived, and the fact that people deem him "authentic" makes it even worse.
Justin's career has been taking off since his days with N' Sync. I have to admit that his latest album is his best to date. Timbaland is such a great producer and he continues to impress.

I loved Future Sex and I saw the Future Sex/Love Show on TV.. it was really spectactular. He can do no wrong. His first solo album was great and he really matured and made another, more mature album. Go Justin!

But this is true for everyone, in almost every single genre of music - at least in the modern popular music world. I can't think of many headlining artists, indie or what have you, who are outright ugly, and many if not most are significantly better than average. It's not a coincidence that people like Feist and Chan Marshall and Neko Case are very attractive. It isn't even just about sex (or just about music) - it's easier to get someone's attention if you're good looking, regardless of gender and orientation. Just human nature.
