Can you believe it's been 17 years since a young, blue-eyed rocker from Chicago burst onto the music scene with the most electrifying debut since Meet the Beatles? I'm speaking of course about the self-titled Capital Records release from Richard Marx. The influence of Marx still reverberates today in the music of everyone from Helen Reddy to Jay-Z.

A wise man once said "Sad songs are nature's onions", and never had anyone gathered 12 onions as sweet as Richard Marx in 1987. I hope you're resting in peace, Richard, wherever you are.

Actually it was "Love Me Do", but that came next.
