Garfield- A movie based on a comic that reached its peak twenty years ago.....it could be good?
Around the World in 80 Days- An adaptation of the famous book (and Oscar winning movie) starring....Jackie Chan(?)
White Chicks- nuff said.
King Arthur- The movie that will differentiate FACT from FICTION----just like "Pearl Harbor"
Thunderbirds- A movie based on a TV show whose novelty was it had an all puppet cast----except in the movie NO PUPPETS.
Terminal- the f*ck was Spielberg thinking!?! All-american actor Tom Hanks plays a--a Russian!?!?! A movie about being stuck in the airport. Dont they already have a reality series based on that sh*t?
Dodgeball- Another one of those "Ben Stiller's incredibly funny because hes stupid and oblivious" comedies.
Two Brothers- A movie about nature and serenity and how humans destroy the environment. Need I say more?
Catwoman- A movie based on the villain in Batman---except now, shes FIGHTS evil doers and Batman is completely gone. The only reason Im seeing this is to see Halle Berry in that tight-ass leather outfit.
You know its the Summer of Suck when the high point is a damn comic book movie (Spiderman)!!!!
don't prejudge spielberg. but then again i don't understand the point of the criticism above.
alot worse premise has made a fantastic film. its the narrative, the director, the performances, casting, and never the innane pitch that makes a movie. then again you do see spiderman 2 as a high lowpoint for the season . .. enough said.
What's so bad about this summer? I know 'catwomen' and 'garfield' really sound awful, but hey, we've watched 'shrek 2' and HP3 and plus, Spiderman 2 WASNT that bad alright (see the reviews if u dont believe me). Moreever, if u havent noticed it's summertime and u know how preposterous summer movies go; but hey, this is the time let go yr pretentious classy side and just be entertained by all that summer silliness. I mean, these are the things that make our life fun; we cant be watching arty flicks throughout the whole year,in fact, if one's expectations arent high, it is these summer blockbusters that remind us why we watch movies in the first place- to be entertained.
ok, sorry newbie085, but this goes beyond our "pretentious classy side" to "ridiculously insulted intelligence side". I love movies. I love stupid movies. I love to be entertained. but the SHIIT that studios release makes me want to drown myself in a bathtub of cat vomit (something "garfield" neglected to touch upon). It really is a sad slide into reliance on fancy cg and less emphasis on writing. everyone's looking for the next $150 mil opening weekend/Wednesday and what we get are a lot of half-baked, formulaic, totally misjudged disasters. With the exception of Spider-man 2, which was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. it had excellent plot pacing and character development, great special fx and was co-written by Michael Chabon (Wonderboys etc). PS I'd rather stick sharpened #2 pencils through both my ear drums than be paid to watch "terminal." You already know from the trailer it was written because spielberg walked into an airport bathroom and saw someone shaving, and thought, "This is great! I'll get Tom Hanks!"
PPS HEY Syzygy!
I'd really like to know what worse premise than Terminal has made a great film. I'm not being sarcastic, I've just been thinking about it for a while and am at a loss.

Anyway, I don't know if you remember but last year, science fiction was dominated by the Matrix (2 very disappointing films) and the only good sci-fi film was Cypher.
This year, sci-fi and comic book films strike back! And I don't see the problem! And next year guess what? It's gonna be even worse for you!!!! With Iron Man, Ghost Rider and Batman 5 coming our way!

spiderman was boring. damn, i was surprised that i liked borne as much as i did. it was tough looking past the boyish matt damon and taking him seriously. he lacks all sophistication and there is nothing distinguishing about the performances he gives. the director and editor carried this baby from beginning to end.
It's the end of the summer, so looking backwards I can say that there were some excellent films. AND there were no movies mangling Dr. Seuss or further degrading (yet...I know it's coming) the mythic Star Wars (original), which George Lucas seems bent on draining every last corpuscle from. Three or four star movies this summer (in theaters): Harry Potter/Azkaban Dodgeball (stupid but funny) Fahrenheit 9/11 Spiderman 2 (not as good as Spiderman, though) Control Room (documentary on Al Jazeera) Before Sunset (see Before Sunrise FIRST) Manchurian Candidate Maria Full of Grace

(I'll still see it on tape, even though I was told the ending. Plus, I like Spike Lee, so I'll also catch She Hate Me -- although it does sound like several movies in a blender.)
Farenheit 9/11 (depending on who youre talking to)
_I'm REALLY biting my tongue here!

Yes, I agree with you Ed, I found the Village to be interesting and enjoyable. I, Robot was also very entertaining. I have to say that Collateral was definately the best film of the summer, if it did come out in the summer, i cant remember, it might have been september.

What could you have possibly seen in "The Village" to make you think it was a good movie?
I also agree that the village wasnt that bad. I probably said this somewhere else but I think even though i didnt think it was scary at all, it was more of a drama/romance with a good twist and some good acting. I dont see what was so horrible about it.

Nothing about it was great, but nothing about it was really bad either. The story was interesting and original and in the end it all made sense, the acting was good, the effects were good, and finally, I really liked the ending twist, although many people didnt.
Answer me this Eccentro:
What in your opinion, made the Village so bad?
