I think the top post on the XBOX 360 game Quake 4 is the reason you cannot take the reader scores very seriously.
This guy "D Kep" stats: Quake 3 multiplayer sucks.
Well, I am not too sure which particular planet D Kep is from, but Quake 3 to this day has not been beaten for online multiplay in terms of physics. Ok, so its still an FPS and therefore for some not very exciting, but the Threewave mod for Q3 continues to run and run as its THE best online FPS experience. UT/Q4/CS are all good, but nothing touches Q3. Bare in mind Q3 is like 8 years old that shows you just how good the original engine was. The physics are incredible, due mainly to Carmack doing the engine and physics work. Its a shame he has taken a back seat and more of a consultative roll and allowed ID development for the series to move to Raven.
You also cannot mark a game down because of the gore content, it just means the box should have a warning sticker on it.
I bought Q4 for the PC, it was a nice distraction, but I'll be playing Guild Wars tonight followed by some Quake 3 FPS mash up.
I suspect Q4 is "just another shooter" on the 360, but I bets its a solid well produced experience, real 70-80% material. 30% is just too darn low.
Well I read one a while ago in the Halo 2 review that said: "Halo 2 is the worst game EVER! Terrible graphics also!" and they gave it a zero. That's one reason I ususally never look at the reader reviews.
It's ususally who's doing this is some Playstation fanboy. Though it happens accross all platforms though, its really pathetic!
