Don't you guys hate the background music playing when an enemy approaches...I know it's actually quite helpful coz it's the only indication enemies are nearby when you can't see (especially in the dark), but man...they could've changed the musical cue to something less freaky. Sometimes I feel like I'm playing Resident Evil or Silent Hill, especially when I'm in a dark dungeon teeming with headless zombies --- add to the fact the First Person battle system often makes me jump off my seat.

I kinda like that music....gives the game a tense feeling. I enjoy just about all the music I've heard so far in Oblivion.

On a side note:

Have you downloaded the 2 extra quests/areas yet, Carlito? I downloaded both...and while the Orrery quest was pretty cool (my enemies dropped a lot of interesting items during that quest)....the Wizard's Tower is even better. It's not really a quest per-se (although quest elements are involved), but it's basically a new home up in the Jerall Mountains for your character. And it you are a magic user, it's an absolute must.

Spellmaking, enchanting, and summoning atronachs is all done within the tower....while you can also teleport to any Mages Guild in Cyrodill from there with the teleports, you even have access to rare ingredients for alchemy in your own personal botanical garden.

Definitely a must have download if you like magic....plus the house/tower is really cool looking.

You're right, the music, the first person battle system, the creatures leaping at you in the face... they all contribute to the experience that is Oblivion... Smiler I love this game.

As for the downloadable quests/areas you mentioned I haven't gone that far in the game yet...I'm on my exams right now so I doubt I'm touching my console, not till next week anyway. I'm not sure how things work, but do you have to be an XBox Live gold member for that? Does the game prompt you to download it?

No, you don't have to be a gold member (you only need to be a gold member to play online)...

Just go to the Xbox Live Marketplace from your 360 dashboard, find Oblivion downloads, and they're in there.

They cost 150 points each (which is about 1.75 or so)....so not too bad at all. Very fun quests too.

You finished the main quest already?!? Wow...that was quick. And to think, the makers of Oblivion promised hundreds of hours of gameplay! Did you do any of the side quests?

Hahah...i'm 50 hours in....only level 11....

And I still have plenty of the main quest to go. Right now, I'm trying to get all the items from the Daedric Shrine quests. There are some key valuables to be obtained in those quests. I need to level up to do some of them though.

This is the kind of game where taking your time and doing everything is essential.

I've got a total of 42 hours gameplay...at Level 11 too. Still getting all the recommendations at the Mages' Guild. Big Grin

I agree, taking your time and exploring everything is important for a number of reasons: loot, money, and experience.

So you been getting any nice skill perks yet? My character's finally got some new cool summon spells (Conjuration). There's a bit of drawbacks though with the race I picked... my Blunt and Heavy Armor skills take a while to raise, but the magic skills are breezing through.

I don't really have too many skill perks since my character is a knight, he's a beast when it comes to melee combat though....I'm trying to get my magic up there so that I can use soul trap...and keep my Staffs charged at all times. Staffs are the key to most battles, IMO. Once you get in the Mages Guild (after all recommendations are done), you will get to make your own Staff. I chose the Frost Damage for mine because a lot of enemies you encounter will be hurt more by Frost (fire enemies, Oblivion Gate enemies)....if I keep my Staff Of Frost charged, I can usually run through a dungeon in a couple minutes....killing everything in about 2-3 blasts each. Plus, it's fun as hell.

I picked up the Staff before my final bout in the Arena....beat the Grand Champ in under 30 seconds...it was hilarious.

Was anyone able to get the "Fingers Of The Mountain" spell from Earana when doing the recommendation for the Mages' Guild in Chorrol?

I would've gotten it (the book contains that spell) if I had Earana study the book first before giving it to Teekeus. Just wondering if anyone managed to get it...sounds like a really powerful spell.

Go back and talk to Earana, she becomes a little mad that you gave the book to Teekeus but she forgives you all you have to do is go back inside the mages guild and "steal" the book back. First go upstairs to the library and then go up another set of stairs to another level and up there somewhere inside a treasure chest is the book, take it back to Earana and she asks you to talk to her the next day so wait for 24 hours or so and talk to her again she will then send you on a quest of your own to get the spell. Go back to cloud top where you found the book and continue in a north-easterly direction until you come to some ruins or something alike. you are looking for a some sort of stone i forgot what it is called but there are seven of these stones in here but you only need one. When you enter the ruins directly behind you when you enter is 2 stands that hold on top of them one of these stones. this is all you need but you can however go all the way through this cave if you wish. It is full of vampires and Booby Traps, However if you want an easier option there is one of these stones in one of the Mages guilds in a cabinet i think it is in the town furthist south of Cheydinal. Once you have the stone go back to cloud top and use the soothing touch spell on the object stone in the middle of cloud top and you will have the spell called Fingers of the Mountain but i won't spoil what the spell does. By the way has anyone else become a Vampire?

I know how to get "Fingers Of The Mountain", but I realized this after the fact. I told Earana I would NOT steal it back from Teekeus (because I have this foolish principle that I will play my character with utmost integrity --- if you notice in your stats/inventory, it lists all your misdeeds), which obviously closed the mission for good. Needless to say, I am really upset I will never get my hands on that powerful spell. And no, the save game at that point was overwritten. Smart eh.

I was just plain curious if anyone managed to get it, so I could feel worse Big Grin

I've been tempted to restart the game just to replay the scenario, but being already at Level 14, I don't think so. I don't think it's worth repeating the game all over again just for that spell.

Oh, and I don't think being a Vampire would be that much fun. The stat bonuses you receive are really not that great, and your weaknesses far outweigh the benefits. People's dispositions towards you are gravely affected; not to mention all the shops are CLOSED at night, the only time when you can safely travel outdoors. I guess it can be fun if you like that kind of gameplay.

Being a vampire at first was ok because we could still go out during the day but after sleeping a few times and waiting sometimes we became a proper vampire but this is ok because we know the cure for vampireism but we are struggling to get it as we required 5 grand soul gem stones and we only have 2. When you go outside during day time you begin to lose health rapidly. Since we know the cure we also know a glitch that allows us to get as much gold as we want. If you do want to be a vampire then try this because this is how we became a vampire. First go to the arena and fight against the two wolves and the goblin skirmisher and kill them then collect your reward and look around in the same place where she is until you find a bedroll to sleep on do so for as long as you want i did it for 1 hour and had some random dream that a vampire bit me at night and i became an instant vampire. You can feed on people if they are asleep. It is actually quite intersting to be a vampire. we are currently travelling through different caves and mines to look for these Grand Soul Gems.

A Few Questions:

1. Where do you get bear pelts?
2. What is the best way to put restoration up?
3. Where is the thieves guild and how do we enter?
4. Where can i find an Ebony Helmet

Help Would Be Appreciated

1. Bear pelts are really hard to find, appearing only in forests (and more often, in mountain forests) when your character reaches certain levels: 7, 12, and 18. If your character is Level 14 or higher you can check near the Kemen Ayleid Ruins (in the mountains east of Cheydinhal) and you can also try Rielle (in the mountains northwest of Bruma). Bears are really rare, but at least its not as rare as the darn Nirnroot! However, if you don't like the joys of hunting and are not too worried about parting with some $$$, town traders sell them (you can only buy five at a time, I think).

2. Increasing your Restoration skill is easy if the race you picked is a natural at it, otherwise you can just keep casting Restoration spells to boost the skill just like you would hack away at enemies to boost your Blunt skill. Some races like the Breton for example, are particularly "skilled" at Restoration magic, so they raise the skill pretty quickly with every spell use.

3. There's 2 ways to enter the Thieves Guild. The first is to read a "Wanted" poster for the "Gray Fox", they're all over the Imperial City. Find one, read it, and it will give you the topics "Gray Fox" and "Hieronymous Lex". You will then have to talk to a beggar (whose disposition towards you must be at least 70) and he will ask you "Are you looking for him?" Say you want to work with the Gray Fox and then you will be sent off to visit the Garden of Dareloth in the city's Waterfront District at midnight. There you will find the "Thieves Guild".

The second approach is to simply commit a crime and have one of the guards throw you in jail. You'd probably want to commit the crime in Imperial City, because the scenario will play out more quickly. Once you're thrown in jail, sleep to run your sentence out. When you get out, Myvryna Arano will find you (if you're already in Imperial City, Myvryna will get to you in minutes; anywere else it will take longer, up to eight hours). She'll hand you a note that will tell you to go to a a secret meeting in the Garden of Dareloth at midnight.

4. I can't remember precisely, but there's a book on armor and stuff and it tells you where different types of armor can be found. I think the book's called Manual of Armor or something. I don't have the game on right now, but my character has that book. Anyway, from what I remember Ebony is really rare, none of the traders sell them, and they can only be found in certain dungeons (as loot from creatures you kill in combat) after your character reaches Level 15. I'm not entirely sure about this, but I can check again and repost.

Thanks for the tips on bear pelts they will come really handy and same with the thieves guild, i already knew about the restoration just thought that there may be a quicker way and also i finally found an ebony helmet but it doesn't look good. Nirnroot is one of the things i have found a few of but i never picked them up, what is the big deal with nirnroot? PS i have found some nirnroot towards the south of Blackwood which is east or south east of leyawiin. Also what is everyone's best spell, mine is lightning Bolt but are there any better ones? Has anyone got the spells to open all types of locks because they are cool there isn't a lock you can't break and the chest by that guy in the arena has 500 Gold in it and if you steal it you will get a bounty of 250 gold so it is kind of worth it.

The Nirnroot is a very rare plant that you have to look for when you do the sidequest "Seeking Your Roots". Some guy sends you on a first mission to look for 10 Nirnroot, then 20, then 30, then finally 40 Nirnroot. He uses them to make special Elixirs which boosts some stats for a duration of time. The thing about Nirnroot is that it NEVER grows back, so you can't keep coming back to the same spot to harvest them as you normally would with other herbs. I have had this quest for some time now, and I still haven't found the first 10! I think I've almost thrown the towel in on this one.
