All right, so I couldn't resist. I rented the system and the game from the video rental to try it out before I decide if I really wanna buy it. The possibilities are overwhelming! So much freedom, you can do whatever you want, steal whatever you want, kill whoever you want, and the story becomes consequential to what you've done. The world of Oblivion is huge, and open to exploration. I think this is the first RPG I've played in my life that actually lives up to the name "RPG". As for my character, I made a Breton Battle-Cleric born under The Ritual birthsign. Specialization: Magic. Favorite Attributes: Strength, Willpower. 7 Major Skills: Blunt, Heavy Armor, Armorer, Restoration, Conjuration, Alteration, Mysticism. I'll post more later as the game progresses, I'm still Level 1 and I just got in the Imperial City. This game is gonna be long.....

Nice...I picked The Ritual birthsign too. Yeah, it's probably the biggest game I've ever played in terms of scope, options, and the sheer amount of things to do. Did you try hunting yet? I suck at it, but it's fun.

I hunted at the Sideway Caves... but that's it, after I scoured the caves, I went straight to the Imperial City... when I got in the gates to the city I saved the game and went to bed, I was too tired to continue. I fared okay with the hunting (I haven't died yet). The reason I pick Clerics all the time is coz you never need health potions, and they're pretty much as strong as (although they're never stronger than) warriors . When you dungeon crawl and for some odd reason you run out of health potions it's tough to survive without a healer.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying...since I'm not too proficient in magic, I just collect any food ingredients I see and make potions with them (alchemy skill)....it's fun to see what you can make too. Also, having The Ritual birthsign bonus really helps with health....although you can only use it once a day.

This game is ADDICTIVE. I'm about almost sure now that I'm getting the 360. I don't care if I'm spending a lot of $$$ on this, but Oblivion is so worth it.

You know what, that's true. When the 360 was released in November, I didn't care. Even the launch games were meh. Then boom Oblivion came out I was like whoa, I think I'm gonna have to get the system.

Yep...
I bought it the day it came out, but felt that a game for people that are not fans of Xbox didn't exist yet.
That game exists now...it's called Oblivion.

You dont have to buy a xbox 360 to play oblivion, its better on PC anyways....360 version has bugs and unlike pc there will be no way to patch any problems.

I haven't encountered any bugs yet...
And besides...playing games on your 360 lounging on your couch is a lot better than being cramped up at a little computer.

Some people are the console types though, I agree with GZA. The experience is different when you're kickin back on your couch playing the game on a HD TV huge screen. I'm not sure if my laptop or desktop could duplicate that experience.

I’m sure Bethesda accounted for the “possibility” of serious bugs with Oblivion on the 360. However, the game could only be patched if you have the hard drive. Just like you can download episodic content online for your 360 (and the regular Xbox, for that matter), I’m sure you can patch the game somehow as well. The extreme nature of the game demands that it has some way of being patched for the 360. Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls games are notorious for bugs. However, I’ve been proved wrong before. ;-)

GZA... I finally got my own 360 today...also got the Collector's Edition of Oblivion Did you get the strategy guide? It's got tons of helpful tips and info. I'm not one for reading prior to playing (I actually hate reading about the game...I just play and enjoy the game for what it is), but I thought it would be a fun read. Where u at in the game right now? I'm still taking it slow...the game is really real time I noticed. You followin the main quest much or u huntin?

Nice....good pickup Carlito. You're gonna love your new 360...especially later this year when the quality games start pouring in.
As for Oblivion...I didn't pickup the strategy guide. Figured I might after I beat the game once, I kinda want everything to be a surprise, you know? Once I beat the game though, it will be fun to have the guide the 2nd time.
Hahaha...I'm still really early on in the game. I haven't even taken the amulet to Jauffrey yet....I've just been doing guild quests, stealing stuff, and doing random things....I've been playing for about 10 hours total. I think I'm gonna start on the main quest when I get bored. Hahahaha....I love this game.

Hahahaha I love this game too. You know what I do for laughs? After I barter with a shopkeeper and he bids me farewell I zap him with my magic fire flare and he's like... "What's going on...??!?!???!!!?" and then I hold up my shield and activate the "Yield" and he's like...."Oh okay, it's okay, I accept your apologies.." !!!! After I charred his face he's like oh it's all good bud. Haha and the funny thing is you can keep doing it over and over. The third time tho, the guards come after you. What marrrooons! Hah. I'm at Level 4 now. I've taken the amulet to Jauffrey already.... oops EDIT... sorry GZA...... spoiler. Dude, this is a fun game... altho I think I'm gonna have to slow down the next few days cuz I have to study for final exams. I have the system now tho so I can play it whenever.

That's awesome....I haven't gotten into magic too much, I got a few spells, but I've mostly been focusing on combat....maybe I'll try some magic when I play this weekend. I can't wait to play again though, I've put the game off the last couple days cuz I've been busy, but this weekend I should have time. I can tell I'll be playing this for a long time.

When I started playing medieval type RPG's, I always picked Warriors or Fighters. Mostly because I found magic was not very straightforward when it comes to killing enemies. But I experimented with clerics (who are actually warriors themselves, just with healing and some enhancing spells --- they have very few offensive spells, which are often weak anyways), so I developed some kind of skill with using magic. To be good with magic I think you have to have a rhythm or a plan, kinda like using the right spell at the right time (and of course, you gotta be a straight shooter haha). It definitely makes the game more challenging, because with warriors all you gotta do is up your strength and hack.

Yeah....but even being a warrior in this game is challenging.
I won't spoil anything for you, but if you've been to Cheydinhal and done the "Missing Painter" quest....damn, it's tough. Those painted trolls were giving me all kinds of fits....made me look like a sissy. Haha.
That's the great thing about this game....it's challenging no matter how you play it.

Made some more progress this weekend...
I'm a level 5 now...almost 6. About 16 hours of play time.
Closed my first Oblivion gate...a few pretty tough enemies in there, but nothing too difficult.
The few sequences after you close the first gate are amazing....really give the game an 'epic' feel.
Right now, I'm trying to get into the Mage's Guild and get all the recommendations. Only a couple more I need.
This is turning into one of my all-time favorite games.
