Anybody have this yet? I am getting this today after work. For being "the most anticipated RPG of the year" I haven't heard too much about it or seen any discussions. Just want to make sure its a good game.

I went and picked it up on my lunch break...haven't had the chance to play it yet (not until after work), but it looks amazing.

I got the collectors edition, and the packaging and extras are nice....some of the best packaging ever.

As for the game....we shall see, but I've only heard great things about it.

Sweet. I wanted to get the collectors edition but they wouldn't let me reserve it. They said I could upgrade if they had some available when I pick it up, but my girlfriend is picking it up for me and I doubt she upgraded. Let me know what you think though. I can't wait to get out of here and test it out.

Alright...I said I would post my impressions of the game so far....well, here goes:

I'm not too far into it...I just got out of the sewers and explored a little bit, then went to bed. Took me about 1.5 hours.

I will say this....the graphics are unbelieveable....some of the most beautiful graphics I've ever seen in a game period. No, scratch that....THE most beautiful graphics I've ever seen. The lighting in the dungeons is outstanding....and the sound effects just compliment the graphics so well. Then, once you step outside....the game is breathtaking. Trees, water, grass, etc. all look excellent.

As for the gameplay...well, I wasn't a big fan of Morrowind. The sole reason? I thought the combat was terrible. Too stiff, too boring, too much chance involved. In Oblivion? The combat is excellent. Everything from swinging your sword to holding up your shield is done in real-time....and there are no more misses when it looks like you clearly made contact. This time, damage is based on your skill in that particular area. I think it's great, and I'm glad they implemented it that way.

As for the rest of the game so far? Brilliant. The story is interesting....the character creation process is flawless (and very fun!)...the score is amazing....everything about this game is quality. It's incredible that this game was released so early in the 360 life cycle. This is a game I would expect to see years down the road. It is a true next-gen experience, IMO.

Right now I would give it a 10/10, only because I haven't found a single flaw in the game yet....if I do, I would adjust my score accordingly, but right now....this is THE game to have.

K... I have a question for u folks.

How many character classes? And can someone please enumerate what they are?

I don't have an X-Box so I never had the chance to play Morrowind. I'm totally ignorant as to what character classes Elder Scrolls have. If Oblivion has a varied enough collection of classes (outside the staples like the warrior, a rogue/assassin type, and the wizard), and most especially if they have a cleric or druid type, I might have to get myself a 360. I can't wait till PS3 comes out with its own array of medieval RPG's if I'm missing out on all the fun with The Elder Scrolls.

I believe there are 22 character classes....more than enough, I'm sure...Smiler

There are also 12 birth signs you can choose from for your character...which will give you different bonuses and special abilities...

Not to mention, you can choose from 10 different races and male/female as well...

There are so many options, it's almost overwhelming....

This game is a must have for any fan of customization/freedom.

That sounds really good.

I'm sure if there's 22 classes, there would have to be a cleric type, I'm assuming?

I guess I'm gonna have to get a 360. Good thing, they're back in stores.

Do you also own the original X-Box, and PS 2 as well? My original plan was to get just PS3 because I've always been a sony fan, but PS3 is taking way too long. It looks like I might have to own both systems. It's gonna cost me a fortune.

I believe there is a cleric type character...not sure though.

Anyways....yeah, this is THE reason to own a 360. Especially if you're a fan of RPG's.

The 360 is the only console I own besides a Dreamcast (The best console ever Smiler). I had an Xbox....but it crapped out about 3 months or so before I got my 360...so as soon as I got the 360, I tossed it. It gave me lots of great gaming, so I wasn't disappointed. I had a PS2, but sold it a while back because I needed the money. It had a lot of games that I loved as well....but I don't miss it. I'm usually not one to own more than one current gen console at a time though....I have a full time job, a girlfriend, trying to start a family...I just don't have time for games like I used to. One console is enough, and one game at a time is enough....especially a game like this. And the 360 has so many great games on tap that I won't really be disappointed if I don't get a PS3 or Revolution. Plus....Live is where great gaming is at now.

All of the consoles are great....but Xbox/Xbox 360 usually has my type of games.

Sounds convincing enough Smiler

Yeah I checked the website, there should be a cleric type --- you can select the Ritual Birthsign, use Blunt and Heavy armor Combat Arts, and use Conjuration and Restoration mainly for magic.

Let me know how you like it when (I'm not even gonna say if...cuz you HAVE to get this game) you get it. Smiler

As for my character...he's a Redguard Knight (I made him real young too) and his birthsign is The Ritual (I like the idea of restoring health...it's always useful). I'm gonna concentrate on strength and sword use mostly since I'm a hack and slash type person Smiler Very fun.

As far as people’s concerns about whether or not a cleric class is available… you can make any class you’d like.

I’m fortunate enough to have a pretty kick-ass offline workstation… I think I’ll pick up the PC version to experience the hype. Then, as usual, I’ll lose interest after a month and never touch the thing again. I might make it to level 5, if I’m lucky. ;-)

Personally, I’m going to approach this game with caution. It’s far from perfect and it’s not nearly as polished as it is enormously huge. There are apparently some annoying bugs and a few deadly glitches, but such is the norm with Elder Scrolls games. I suppose the selling feature is that, looking past the imperfection, you will find yourself immersed in a world like no other game has ever allowed before.

I wouldn’t mind hearing some criticisms from game owners in this forum. I usually find better information in people’s gripes than in their seduced praises.

Yeah, you can make any class you like...you just mix up the birthsigns and specializations you prefer.

I was thinking of just getting the PC version since I don't have an X-Box 360... But I wonder if the PC experience would be a lil awkward for me coz I'm used to controllers....

The question is... do you have a PC that can run the game?

Also, the PC version comes with an editor... custom content and enhancements.

I'm not a techie, I'm not sure if that was a trick question or not...

What specs does the game require?

It has been my experience that the recommended requirements ARE the minimum specifications. Once I get the game, I'll post my experience with game performance and my system details... hopefully that will help others who are concerned about performance issues.

I've read that the game stutters on the XBox 360 in some spots... that concerns me a little.

I have the game...for the 360.

I've played it for about 6 hours total so far...haven't done much of the main quest...just been travelling around, doing random things. I gotta say....it's the most fun I've had with a game in a loooong time.

There are a few areas, specifically out in the wild, that require a small load while you are walking...but it doesn't go to a load screen...it's hardly even noticable. The graphics are amazing....with very few hiccups (at least on my system). I don't really have any gripes because I believe this game is one of the best I have ever played so far...and this coming from someone who didn't like Morrowind at all. The one "minor" issue I have is with the NPC's schedules. Sometimes, you may have to do a quest that invloves spying on the NPC's activities at night, but since they have different routines on different nights, you might have to wait 3-4 nights just to get the quest going. It's kind of annoying, but nothing that detracts from the gameplay whatsoever.

This is one game, IMO, that actually lives up to the hype and surpasses it....and when I'm done with the game, I could see it in my top games of all-time...it's that good.

I'm convinced it's a good game...My friend just bought the PC version and he hasn't stopped ranting about it. But with the $$$ issue I'm helpless right now... When I work full time for the summer I *might* buy the console. I was actually planning to rent the 360 for a week together with the game from my video rental store, so I might just do that after I'm done with my exams.

As for the PC version...I'm afraid my laptop doesn't meet the requirements. Either way I'm more comfortable using controllers than the keyboard/mouse.

GZA, what level is you knight now?

My knight is only at a level 2...haha. Smiler

I've been so wrapped up in the game that I haven't really concentrated on levels, the main quest, or anything like that yet...

Still getting "my feet wet" so to speak. I did join the Arena, and that's pretty much how I leveled up.

The more I get into the game, the more impressions I will post here though.
