I don't think the Shenmue craze really caught on in Europe. Shenmue II did get rave reviews though - but maybe gamers weren't quite ready for this open-ended gameplay just yet. A third installment in the series would probably succeed more than the previous ones - things have changed a lot since the last one came out.

I agree, and maybe the fact that Shenmue I didn't come out on X-Box didn't help!
All the people who used to play Shenmue on the Dreamcast, like me, obviously were over the moon to see it on the X-Box but for others who had the Playstation for example, it wasn't such a big deal.
But after trying Shenmue 2 I think that many people will want to see the 3rd one. Hopefully, Shenmue will get the "craze" it deserves!
I can't believe that SEGA are even considering not making Shenmue 3.What about all of us fans who purchased Shenmue 1 and 2,how can they not finish the series after all of its fans playing through all of Shenmue 1 and 2?Surely they should see that they have a responsibility to finish the story for all of us who spent such time playing through the story.SEGA have gone downhill ever since the awesome dreamcast in my oppinion.

The beginning of Shenmue 1 is one of the most depressing experiences of all time, and the rest of the game is nearly as powerful. It's very calm, but also hopeless. How the hell are you gonna find that motherfucker who killed dad? All you know is that there was a black car.
The three discs, and the ample information confirming that this is just the first chapter makes this feel like you're just tugging at the strings in a scheme that is much grander than you can imagine. Also, the dude that killed dad is apparently one of the best fighters ever. I couldn't help but hope that I wasn't gonna run into the guy for a long long time. There was also the fight against 100 dudes. And who can forget collecting plastic toys?! There was also the forklift races, which were tough at first, but got easy when you learned the course.
However, I hated trying to find the warehouse for the antiques dealer. The hobo had given me all kinds of hints, and it still took me (in game time, not real world time) weeks.
Also, did anyone intentionally lose the game? Although you may think that you can't really lose the game because you just retry any fight you lose, if you can't beat the game by April, the dude who killed your father appears back at your house, and he kills you. Game over.
I have a hundred more fond and not-so-fond memories of Shenmue 1. I don't want to play through the game again because it's too much of a commitment, and I don't really want to play the sequel.

I read reviews of Shenmue 2 so I bought it. Its sooooooo sloooooooooooow. Call me unintelligent, call me short attention spanned, but dont call me when they put out "Shenmue 3".
Gamerdudeandrew I felt the same way when the Dreamcast got annihilated! How could they leave such a great game without a conclusion??? Is Ryo supposed to stay in that weird cave with Shenhua forever???
Eccentro, did you even play Shenmue 1 on the Dreamcast? I guess not, then you were probably something else and were a little lost. And by the way, I didn't think it was slooooow at all, It's not Mario Kart you know!!!
I never owned a DC so playing shenmue 1 was never an option for me. I didn't see any problems getting into the 2nd though. It seems easily playable as a stand alone title to me. I'll agree it is a bit slowish in places and a lot of time is spent running back and forth in the same locations. But that's really the nature of the Shenmue universe I guess - love it or hate it

Yea Shenmue is a great game, but i doubt they will come out with the third one. The second one had good reviews, but reviews dont do much when the public doesnt like the game.
