Question:
I can't decide which I want to buy. The ratings are within three points of each other. I don't own "Doom III" or PC, so I am really at odds with myself. Any suggestions?

Choices:
Jade Empire
Doom 3

I really can't say, I purchased Doom 3 and so far...it's okay. I love the graphics but the gameplay is kind of simplistic. I only played a demo of Jade Empire and I haven't read a review (besides OXM) but I didn't intrest me in buying it. I like the idea, but I needed more time with the game which I, questionably didn't spend enough time with.
I can say that Doom III is gorgeously awesome. It has this fun house kind of feel to it, where every single level looks different from the last. No two rooms seem to look alike. There's a bunch of large mechanical drills, sorters, machinery kind of objects that'll hypnotize you. I just stood there and looked at thoes things for awhile and thought about the art and environment direction behind the video game. They're really neat, it's like watching the interior of a 300 ft. mech warrior move around. Lot's of steam and pressurized things.
As for the gameplay though, it's not like classic doom, where 15+ were head hunting for you, which I kind of miss out on. Frowner. Plus they're way easy to kill, I hardly ever use any other weapon then the shotgun (which doesn't look as cool as DoomI or II). Mostly one enemy will charge at you and that's that.

p.s. I didn't vote...

What the... So you think every room in D3 looks different? Don't look like it to me. In fact it's quite the opposite. It does have nice graphics, but riddick is a much better game, graphics and gameplay wise. Doom 3's gameplay is very simplistic and ends up being plain BORING. Level after level, corridor after corridor killing the same monsters. On top of that, every room has the same washed out color palette. I'm not saying D3 is not a good game. It has a scary atmosphere and it's fun for a while but the fun fades away pretty quickly. If you're looking for a good single player FPS get riddick.

My advice: Buy jade empire. Or, just skip both games and get Splinter Cell CT instead. I had a lot more fun with SCCT than Jade Empire

Or maybe what I was trying to say, was that all the rooms had different architecture. I loved the large structures and pipes that course through the levels. Yeah, the colors are a little on the grey and colorless side, but I think that's the way it's suppost to be. I don't think the Mars Research facility would decorate their walls with baby blues, and rainbow colors. I guess I was trying to say, that the designs, the lights, gauges, the intricacy of the walls and the wires and all of the wierd hisses and pipes going on and off was something that I saw in every level. They didn't however just copy and paste the same machines and stuff.

Still, it feels as if the engine doesn't support wide open areas. It´s corridor after corridor after corridor with endless imps firing fireballs as they sneak at you from the back. It feels claustrophobic sometimes. Still, I'm enjoying it. I bought it, stopped playing for a while and now I'm enjoying it again. Doom 3 is much more fun in small doses at a time..

I've only played a little of Jade Empire, but its enough to say that it will offer a much richer gameplay experience than Doom 3. I mean if you're really into FPSs, get Doom 3, but Jade Empire is one of those small steps for video games that act as a guide for all other games in the future. Many websites and magazines have said that it's the best RPG on the Xbox. Doom 3 is fun, but I didn't even play the single player much. Online Co-op is the best part, but the deathmatches are terrible. Its a race for the rocket launcher. After playing so much Halo 2, not many online FPSs will do it for me, and with the new maps out, Halo 2 is still king, imo. My advice is obviously for Jade Empire, its got kung fu.

I'm right with Soul Supreme, I own them both and Jade Empire is just flat out the better game. Not that I hated Doom 3, it's actually great fun if you've got Xbox Live and a co-op partner you know to play with, but all things taken into consideration (better presentation, far more interesting story, more original and fluid gameplay), Jade Empire is just a more enjoyable experience. Again with Soul Supreme though, if you don't have Halo 2, don't even give the other two a glance.
