It's really incredible. Everything has progressed immensely from the GTA3 games: graphics, gameplay, the map, multiplayer, plot. You name it, it's better.

I finally beat it this afternoon, this game is one of the greatest I have ever played in my life. The way a decision impacts every fiber of Niko as a character is incredibly compelling.

It only gets boring if you don't have a few people around to play "Let's see if we can nail a car by jumping out of a helicopter." Because that just starts spawning ALL KINDS of fun stuff to do Smiler.

I freakin' love GTA4. It's a lot of fun for xbox 360. Especially the xbox live version. I've always liked GTA because there's always free roam whenever you don't feel like playing the story. Big Grin Wink

Fanboy/girls are annoying. If you want to have a debate as to why the 360 is worse than the ps3, be my guest. But don't just put down the system, like your mind is under control by Sony.

The controls are a bit sluggish but overall very captivating. Both versions are amazing.

Absolutely love it! Best game I’ve played this year. My only tiny criticism is they took away the Jet pack Frowner I loved that thing

Yes! I missed these weapons as well… Actuallly, the Weapons and perhaps the vehicles fell just a tiny bit short on this instalment, but I theorize that RockStar will do the same thing they did on the PS2, and release another 2 GTA’s with the same engine as GTA IV, with different cities etc.

I really hope they do, I’d love to pilot an aircraft or jet like in San Andreas (and also bring back the jet pack).

I've played nearly all GTA games and am honestly not all that impressed by GTA 4.

My main problem with the game are the controls when in shooting mode. The last GTA games I played were Vice City and San Andreas on the PC, and shooting enemies was always nice and easy with a mouse and keyboard. Going back to a controller - and I generally like the Xbox 360 controller very much - makes missions in which one has to shoot a lot extremely difficult and frustrating. If I could take my time, look for cover, aim, and shoot in every mission, it wouldn't be much of a problem, but mostly, even fairly early in the game, one only has a very limited amount of time to take down the primary target. Having to restart missions a lot ain't fun!

The cars all handle like crap. Even the sports cars in the game have extremely soft suspensions and don't corner well. The amount of body roll is just silly.

I used to love listening to the beats in the Vice City and San Andreas, but the music in GTA 4 is really lackluster in comparison. It seems like Rockstar really didn't want to spend money on licensing some proper beats.

Although the graphics are very detailed, they're rather blurry on the 360, and the framerates also drop down below around 30 or so in many areas, which can make driving the imprecise-handling cars as high speeds quite difficult.

Overall, GTA 4 isn't bad, but I don't think it's better than Vice City or San Andreas on the PC. I should've waited for the PC version of GTA 4. I'm sure it'll require a very powerful gaming system, but I've got to upgrade soon anyway.

I have to agree with the last post.

San Andreas on the PS2 was one of my all-time faves, but I have found GTA IV to be pretty boring and I stopped playing it about 50 missions in.

The controls are below-par. I hate it when I do a 360 turn to run up a stair case and it runs me into the rail. This certainly doesn't help when you're trying to shoot people. And I'm surprised I haven't heard more people complain about this, but the inverted/not inverted cursor is screwed up. When the inverted cursor is off, when you are on-foot, moving the right stick up moves the screen up. But once you get into a car, if you move the right stick up to see more of the road, the screen goes into the ground. So unless you are adept at using both you have to go into the options screen to change it every time you go from on-foot to a vehicle and back.

The soundtrack and the scenery are also lackluster. It seems like I'm constantly switching through the radio to find a decent song. And no matter how detailed the graphics are drawn a street of old warehouses or the bottom-side of a highway are going to be ugly, in my opinion. Considering the amount of time you're in a car, I also find this to detract from the gameplay much more than you think it would.

The story and characters are also dissappointing. I like Niko a lot, and he certainly has more depth than CJ, but for the most part the other characters in the game I have found to be really annoying - from his cousin Roman to Brucie to Manny, etc.

I don't really know why it's gotten such extraordinary reviews, second highest score on aggregate scorers Game Rankings and Metacritic all-time. I think its score has been helped because there aren't any bugs in the game and on paper it does everything the previous GTA's did. But gameplay-wise, I find GTA IV to be a step-back from San Andreas.
