Same thing happened to Gears of War 2. Almost like a conspiracy against games that are high on the hype meter and high on the review meter. Trying to blame P$3 owners is a BIG stretch, though...

I can think of a few possibilities. The advert at the end of demo was mis-leading. It said there were 10 new weapons and many people thought this meant there would be 20 weapons in the final game (10 in demo + 10 new). Also Valve screwed up the PC release. Maybe lots of irate PC gamers are giving it a bad score because of that (posting in xbox section either on purpose or by accident). On the Steam website Valve have a deal where you can buy 4 copies of Left 4 Dead for the price of 3. Apparently many people did this but only received 1 key, instead of 4. And no response from Valve in over 12 hours. I played the demo on 360 and I thought it was pretty incredible. Pre-ordered

Yes for anyone who hasn't played this game it is fantastic. Great gameplay mechanics, pacing, and visual/audio effects. You get one medpack per level, how you spend it is up to you. Heal yourself and get instant gratification and or heal a friend and hope for reciprocation. You can also carry only one explosive at a time so you must use it wisely as you risk not finding more as you progress. The scarcity of weapons and ability to carry only one main weapon type (and one to two pistols with unlimited ammo) at a time adds to the pressure. Also, NEVER play this game on easy, or maybe even normal ... set to HARD for the ultimate experience.
The zombie animations are fantastic also, with physics based animation that makes clothing and hair behave believably. They hop over turnstyles, learn into their turns when running, and climb large obstacles with gripping realism. I think it's a fantastic game.
As far as consolers rating this game zero? Yeah whatever. I guess they're proud of their junior high antics. Some day they'll be able to afford a gaming PC and play real games. It's a 10 out of 10 easy.

Left 4 Dead...hmmm... I know where I stand on L4D. And might I add, IT'S GOD-LIKE! I have a copy both for PC and XBOX 360. I played the demo front to back on every difficulty setting (including EXPERT). And let me tell you something - NOTHING and I mean NOTHING is going to swat this game out of the sky for a few months. The replayability of this game lies within the ever evolving dynamics of the game. Valve has amazed me with another good game (yet again). I think that maybe the PS3 "fanboys" might be slightly discouraged by L4D due to the fact that there's some speculation as to whether or not it's going to be a PC / 360 title only. If I can remember right though, it's going to take an act of mercy to get it ported so PS3 owners don't suffer the same issue they had with the Orange Box. And I think... keep in mind I'm making an educated guess here... that EA is going to attempt to port it over to PS3. Now does that mean it'll be released anytime in the next few days? Absolutely not. So if there are PS fanboys spamming the user ratings (UR's) with 0's I would advise you to knock it off. It's a great game overall... would I play it again? HELL YES I WOULD! The only thing I didn't like was the infinite ammo with the pistol(s). Does that make me hate the game? No. It's a great game. How the hell it scored an 88% makes me wonder what type of reefer the other review boards were smoking. I'd say this game (as short as it is) should have gotten at least a 95%. I say 95% based on some of the issues I ran into (PC Specific) with the AI and some of the abnormalities that occured with those issues. Other than that gameplay is relatively solid, fast paced, and if you like ever-changing game dynamics... this is your game. The "Director" is good, but not good enough to take me down YET (the keyword is YET). Oh crap... NVM I died. Taking that back now. I agree with previous comments: Try the game on expert. As I'm sure Valve intended the game to be played that way. And the BOSS "infected" spawn in greater numbers and closer to home than is normally comfortable (Witch spawned right outside safe room in No Mercy while Tank spawned right next to the gun table as well as 1 Hunter, 1 Boomer, and 1 Smoker) I thought to myself after seeing such madness "Well Gents, in other words... we're screwed going downstream in a sinking boat without paddles!"
The end of the world is coming with nuclear powered sailboats.

Yeah that's the way to play. It's also hysterical when you lose and see all of your group lying on the ground writhing in agony being torn to shreds only to get the dreaded "The survivors have been overwhelmed" message.
The review at Giantbomb.com said it best about the witch zombie: "...if you get too close, shine your flashlight on her, or, God forbid, shoot her, she turns into a screaming whirlwind of deadly claws that can be quite difficult to put down."
Yeah no kidding! First time we played and saw her we took our shots only to be quickly dispatched (on Expert difficulty). The accompanying zombie swarm when we startled her was no help either.
