I haven't experienced the Ring of Death yet, but I have had to return my xbox 3 times so far (currently in the shop as I write this). You'll have a warranty for it, so don't worry about spending more than the original purchase price, but to say it's a pain in the ass returning my system is an understatement. This will be my 4th xbox 360 since August, 2006.
well i dont know but here they just dropped price i dont have the elite cause its useless unless your gonna have a bunch of music and videos and demos and shit on it... My xbox was only 475$ with tax canadian i got a 10% discount tho so i only payed 410 regardless dont get the elite with the bigger hard drive unless you expect to use all that extra space... cause really that extra money could go towards games... anyways just get the one with the 20gig it works fine i dont get any light of death on mine but it doesnt always read the games so well and you have to take better care of your games compared to previouse systems. Cause i rent games and half of them dont work cause of one good scratch in the game. Its BS but i have to deal with it... anyways good luck its an amazing system

I think there is something fundamentally wrong when a consumer is looking at a product and is concerned with a product failure of said product before they even make the purchase.
I own the Xbox Premium, and I'm very happy with it. But, if you have the money, I would definitely recommend the Elite. More memory, HDMI cables, and it's black. I think it's a deal.
