I don't know why this is even a question. I can't wait to see what the 2K5 game comes out like. For $20, there has to be something wrong with it. I bet it just has updated rosters from last year. But you'll probably still be able to have Ricky Williams on Miami.

Madden is by far the best football game out there. It's defense is getting better and better every year, and the graphics are lightyears ahead of that other game. The second best football game? NCAA Football of course. Sega will never be able to compete with EA's monopoly of the sports genre. And Miami will suck in Madden as they should, because they will probably have time to cut Ricky Williams from the game.

I think the easy answer is that you've got to get both this year. As far as the critics go, the early returns, from Electronic Gaming Monthly, are that Madden is a better, more complete game. The franchise mode is better and the little things have been imporoved more than ESPN. But then again, that's EGM. Again, GET BOTH!

If 2K5 is $20 or $100 it is hands down a better game. And 2K5 doesnt have Blitz-esque body models. They all look like they are Adam Sandler in Waterboy. The only thing that Madden has on 2K5 is the tackling is a slight bit more realistic. 2K5 all the way. Berman rules.

Ok, I bought ESPN for $15.48 because it was on sale, and I have to say that I'm completely satisfied with it. The last football game I bought was NFL FEVER 2002 and I thought I needed a new one. The price was ultra cheap and I like it. I can't tell you much about Madden because I haven't played it that much, but I do think the models in Madden look smaller just like Frankie B said. Like the reviewers say, ESPN's presentation is top notch, it looks like a real game of football. Replays will pull up and you can watch them while you select your plays, the plays you pick can be modified with a simple hot route system. I could also do the same with the defense by shifting my linbebacks in, out, left, or right. That's all great and all, but what ESPN has and MADDEN doesn't is THE CRIB. It's basically a cool reward system where you can design your own two story apartment complex with tons of stuff. There you can show your friends how much stuff you've collected the trophies you've earned and the stuff that you bought. You can buy bobble head dolls, music, movies, endzone dances, free agents, teams, posters, team furniture, and a playable dartboard machine! Freakn' awsome. Collecting the points depends on how much and how well you play the game. ESPN also has 1st person football, but I only played two whole games because it's a lot harder then the normal mode. There weren't enough elements in the 1st person mode to make me play it a lot, although you do see the huddle and hear everything, I still didn't get the feel that I was acutally in the game. I didn't hear the announcers in the booth talking about my plays and I wish I could hear fans scream and shout my name. The hit's don't feel right either, they happen so quickly I don't know which side somebody hit me from.
Presentation of the game is great, I love the SAVEABLE REPLAYS and the halftime and post game and player interviews. Chris Berman does a good job with the reports, but the lip sync needs work, it looks horrible but I watch a lot of Jackie Chan movies so I'm use to it. My only problem with the game is the defense, I sometime have a hard time covering my man. Sometimes I'll have the ball coming striaght towards me and I'll try to block it but it will shoot over me or between my arms and the guy will catch it. Another problem is that I can't tackle very well, my accuracy is horrible and the offense just runs(not jukes) out of my way. Other then that I was very happy about my purchase, I don't have a very accurate review of MADDEN but maybe it would be wise to rent both not buy both, becaue who needs two football games in the same season?
