Not too sure what to make of this game having played about an hour or so.

The art design is very same-y so far, the map is terrible and everything feels a little stiff...

Being a huge fan of Oblivion, I have been all too keen to get my hands on this baby, but I'm feeling a little underwhelmed.

Early days yes, but my spider senses are tingling and not in a good way.

Any other thoughts gamers??

hey the games potential is great, it looks alot better, and it fixes a lot of the crap i hated in Oblivion (that stupid conversation game with the wheel) but man o man, the bugs are killing me. all the main characters are disappearing on me, At first i though maybe it was part of the game but nope, there just vanishing. A bug i can't overlook, because now instead of having total control, I'm forced to do missions 1 way and 1 way only to make up for the fact that my mission triggering character is M.I.A.

I haven't really noticed any bugs, at least nothing drastic..and I think it's one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Draws on the best of past games and brings it into a wholly new world. Very immersive.. The story is dark and engrossing and the AI / graphics are fantastic. The NPCs are stiff, but not nearly as much as Oblivion, and the map, if you mean the world map, isn't anything special, but it is practical and intuitive..but the world itself is very detailed, from the ruined cities and towns to the radiated water, it seems so real.

Getting more into it now. Taking on some missions and wandering down old subway stations are the kind of thing to get anyone into this game I reckon, what with weird bits and pieces lying about and punked up raiders coming screaming out of the dark.

At first it felt pretty bland, but now I'm getting the feel and rhythm of the world and when I am away from it I get that familiar tug to return, the hallmark of the best games.

Still hate the map tho'. Big Grin

Fallout 3 is AMAZING. Just like you I wasnt too sure about the game when I started playing. Im 35 hours in and Im so addicted now.

Please take your time with this game! There is so much to see and so much to learn about the world. Half of the experience is just taking in the amazing feel the game has with its environment.

So I've racked up a heap more hours now, and best of all..I found Dogmeat!!!!

I'm renaming him Harlan, after Harlan Ellison who wrote the dystopic short story 'A Boy & His Dog', later a terrific '70's movie with Don Johnston to which Fallout surely owes a debt.

Yeeeah...got me dog, got me Chinese rifle, whacked quite a few monsters, hot on the trail of Dad...yep, I'm a happy outlander in a hell on Earth.

it's really hard for me to like this game...i mean i know it's an rpg, but there is just wayyyy too much talking in the game...i just want to get to the action...why can't they include something that tells me who to talk to, let's me scroll through the discussion quickly and get to the meat of the game if i want to play it that way?

I ended up really liking it in the end, though it did have its down sides. It's only fallout ish, since Bethesda made it, they very obviously went along with their RPG formula, and it does play quite a bit like an oblivion with guns. Great game though and I hope they make a Fourth Fallout sometime, just with more stuff in it, like many, many more guns would have been great for this game.

Worst graphics of any high-profile next gen title. Aggravatingly inane enemies, from the Super Mutants who are just ridiculous in every respect and even regenerate after you kill them, to the punks and raiders, who are a good laugh but go against the survivalist ethic in the mindless attacks they enact on anyone in the game world. And the bugs. There are many bugs. Furthermore, the Wasteland has a handful of interesting locations, but trekking through it is by and large tedious rather than atmospheric.

How is it that the game defies these flaws to emerge as a diamond in the rough? For one, the quest structure is a lot more inventive than anything I've seen from Bethesda before, with the multiple outcomes and ways of approaching missions making them more absorbing and unpredictable than those in Oblivion. The eccentric cast of characters fit in very well with the post-apocalytic landscape, and the black humour underpinning their existences is spot on. And the pronounced survival aspect to the game really makes you feel like you're living on the edge in the game world, and the first 15 hours or so can seem especially desperate depending on how moral you want to be in your interactions. Levelling up in RPGs to proceed from being everyone's bitch in the virtual realm to being someone to be reckoned with is nothing new, but this game has a very interesting angle on this trajectory that is unlike anything I've played before. Bethesda have created a harsh, barren world that is a truly individual experience in terms of how you forge your path in it, but be prepared to take the rough with the smooth.

I loved Fallout 3, despite its flaws. There are a lot of little bugs, but nothing too major, just like radroaches getting stuck in the floor. It took me a while to get into but once I did I was hooked. I prefer to just wander around in the Wasteland, I put off doing the actual story for the longest time.

as a long time fallout/fallout 2 fan, fallout 3 falls really really short, very disappointing

just doesn't feel like fallout, feels like oblivion... with guns

shame on you all. this is a great game. excellent controls, graphics, story, weapons, leveling system...

if you havent fell in love with fallout 3 i'm convinced you havent given it a fair chance.

and if you're still complaining, then you should have done more research before buying it. usually i know what to expect from a game before shelling out my $60.

Easily one of my favourite games ever. It's not quite up there with Bioshock, but the atmosphere is incredible, the gameplay is adaptable, and there's more than enough stuff to do both in and outside of the main quest to keep a person happy and occupied for a long time. There are a couple of glitches here and there, but this is very forgivable with such an all-around great game and concept.

Exactly! Honestly, wandering around is where the majority of the fun in this game. It's so atmospheric and scary out there in the wastes that it's great just to walk around shooting some Yao Guai or facing off with the occasional Deathclaw. (Of course, make sure you're WELL-armed before doing that.)

It was easy to get lost in this game, spending hours on end, not realizing how much time had passed by, just exploring.

That alone made it a great game for me and an excellent buy.

I am a major fan of Oblivion and have played over 150+ Hours on just one save let alone the saves i've had on other profiles. My friend bought Fallout 3 before i did as i'd never heard of it and didn't know anything about it. Started playing it on his profile and absolutely loved it. The only let down is the beauty in Oblivion isn't matched in Fallout unless you go to Oasis, of which was expected in this game since it was blown to smitherines. Closing in 40 hours in less than 2 weeks and already got the broken steel add on and at level 19. Can't wait to get explorer perk at level 20. My Rating 99/10 along with Oblivions rating of 100/10

This game just gets better and better over time.

VATS, hell yeah.

And all the detailed sub-plots you discover, like L.O.B. enterprises where a little investigating reveals a back story of traitorous business deals before the war with China.

Game has depths.
