I'm curious what everyone else thought about fable? I beat it in a day, and got left with a mix emotion of, wow that was great, but yet revolted. Things I hated, Small limit in weapons along with your muscles growing only from getting the skill and no swinging the massive sword, also they say you can choose your own path.....THERES NO PATH, its either people hate you or like you. I did like the music, set a great mood, give them a 10 for that, I loved the graphics, the deppressing/erie lanscapes were great to especially when the music and graphics matched moods. The quest's were too little to small. People like big quests action packed, where it feels like your doing something rather than nothing. I do commend them on the Arena/Gladiator quest. Loved it, the feeling of nervousness, wondering who you'll face next ...if you'll die and have to do it all over again. its a gamble! And its what makes or breaks a game. To sum it up... Graphics:10 Music:10 Quests:6 AI:7 Char related idea's:10 Weapon selection:4 Difficulty Wise: it was to simple, i could have been typing this while playing.
They could have made it more exciting, and it would have been simple. They should have taken a little more time, maybe try to take polls get ideas on what the gamers want instead of what they would think is good. But then I may just be to picky with my games.......Im not bashing Fable, so please no hate comments.
Well, I am going to be bashing Fable. After years of boasting about how great this game was supposed to be, and after postponement after postponement, after postponement, after postponement, after postponement, I expected more. You were right about not really choosing a path. Your either just loved or hated by the NPCs, and when it comes down to it doesn't really matter in the end.
The content was minimal, like you it only took me two playing sessions to beat the game. There's more content in Super Mario, and that game is how old.
And the bugs, where to start with the bugs. For as many times as they postponed this game to revamp it, allot of really armature bugs can be found in this game. For example my first attempt at this game had to be restated because I completed a quest, but the game didn't recognize that I did and would let me do the quest over. Then there's the running, If you create a game and make running a major part of a some quests, you'd better make sure the character runs correctly. I barley made thought the jail race cause my guy would just stop running periodically.
The NPC AI is really weak too. Hiring a NPC hero is more trouble than it's worth, If they're not getting in your way, they're killing you with their attacks, or just standing there as you get pummeled by 10 Hobbes.
I don't recommend any real gamers getting this game unless you just want to kick chickens. The game poses no challenge to anyone who has ever played a video game before. The whole good/evil system is a good idea but they just didn't pull it off very good. The graphics are good and the music is adequate. That's really all that's redeeming about this game. In a rating system of 1 to 10 I give it a 3.
Well, I've played many many games in my life, but don't have 25 hours a day anymore to stare at a TV screen, so this has provided a pretty enjoyable experience with plenty for me to do after work - pottering about, getting married, trying a bit of trading, buying a house etc. Not all quests are easy; main reason - I go for lots of boasts, which makes them considerably harder. Very pretty, nice little touches of humour. Its certainly up there with the best in terms of immersive experience. M

Here's an apology from Peter M. that can be found in the Lionhead forums:
"There is something I have to say. And I have to say it because I love making games. When a game is in development, myself and the development teams I work with constantly encourage each other to think of the best features and the most ground-breaking design possible.
However, what happens is that we strive to include absolutely everything we've ever dreamt of and, in my enthusiasm, I talk about it to anyone who'll listen, mainly in press interviews. When I tell people about what we're planning, I'm telling the truth, and people, of course, expect to see all the features I've mentioned. And when some of the most ambitious ideas get altered, redesigned or even dropped, people rightly want to know what happened to them.
If I have mentioned any feature in the past which, for whatever reason, didn't make it as I described into Fable, I apologise. Every feature I have ever talked about WAS in development, but not all made it. Often the reason is that the feature did not make sense. For example, three years ago I talked about trees growing as time past. The team did code this but it took so much processor time (15%) that the feature was not worth leaving in. That 15 % was much better spent on effects and combat. So nothing I said was groundless hype, but people expecting specific features which couldn't be included were of course disappointed. If that's you, I apologise. All I can say is that Fable is the best game we could possibly make, and that people really seem to love it.
I have come to realise that I should not talk about features too early so I am considering not talking about games as early as I do. This will mean that the Lionhead games will not be known about as early as they are, but I think this is the more industry standard.
Our job as the Lionhead family of studios is to be as ambitious as we possibly can. But although we jump up and down in glee about the fabulous concepts and features we're working on, I will not mention them to the outside world until we've implemented and tested them, and they are a reality.
Thank you for reading.
Peter."

Another thing about this game is that everyone is making suck a big deal about the Good/Evil system. Well, it's not that new. There was a game back in the days before N64 called Bard's Tale, I think. It have a very similar system to it, but there was actually a game to play along with it. I mean I beat Fable in less than ten hours. That's like three, three hour game session. I spent fifty bucks on this "new ground breaking game". New and ground breaking my but. It's really nothing more than a mediocre adventure game (BTW Stop calling it a RPG it's not a RPG, there's nothing RPG about it, it's an Action/Adventure game with a few RPG elements). My point is what is so special about this game? Minimal weapon choice, minimal costumes, sure you can customize your costume, but your defense will suffer. Yes, you can do stuff like getting married and buy a house, but that no baring on the over all game what so ever. I actually liked the game until I beat it. That came as a total surprise to me. What the heck I just started the game. I'm 27 yrs. and when I play a game its only for an hour or two at a time. I expected to be playing this game for two months not two days. What a rip off, and like most games produced today it has no replay value. I think they need to re-release this game again, but this time actually put some game into it. The only thing that didn't make this game a low budget game was it's price. And as for Peter M. you should apologize and give better one that what you did.

Yeah I totally agree. This whole mlackluster "Fable" thing is making me second guess my opinion of his next game "B.C."

Drone001 didn't you read RayRay's post about Peter's apology? I got a little confused when you said Fable isn't an RPG, what makes an RPG? For some reason I like extra things [getting married, playing pub games, drinking beer, kicking chickens] that have absolutley nothing with the game. Here's another thing, I read the reviews for this game before I bought it. I knew it was going to be a short game, so I prolonged my gaming experience by; fishing, enjoying the environments, runing instead of teleporting, and looking at the art design on all of the weapons. I ended up playing for about 37 hours. I didn't think it was that bad, but I enjoyed it. There weren't that many clothing options but I ran around in the Dark Dress all the time just because it looked cool. I didn't care about how much defense it did, it fit my character so I wore it. Plus it ramped the difficulty up a bit since I knew it wouldn't protect me that much. It was a big fashion show for me since I lived by the quote-"It's not how you do it, it's how good you look while you do it."
The game was great but short lived, the music was great and the idea was great but that was it. What happened to being able to have children? plant trees and then growing? so many things they cut out. Wouldn't it be great if there was Fable two on X-box Two. Lionhead studies were saying that X-box couldn't handle all the things they wanted to do why not do it on X-box two?
I enjoyed Fable a lot. used to play square rpgs and fable blew me away with it's beautiful world and open endedness. I love it. It was my best gaming experience in 2004, followed closely by ninja gaiden. I just don't understand all the bashing fable got. didn't think it was short. If you blaze through it without any sidequests, demon doors, secrets, etc, then yes. This game has the size you want it to be. There's just so much to do.. I finished my first game in little less than 30 hours. Is that short for an RPG?

Yes, I think it is, considering I spent over 80+ hours on FFX and 25 hours on the FIRST disk on FF8 (after that I stopped playing . Then I spent 66 hours beating KOTOR and 37 hours and 20 minutes on FABLE. I remain at 56 years old with 35 complete days past and 100 total teleportations (Last time I played it was in October 15, 2004.) And don't ask me about FF9. But all in all, I think Fable was a decent game, I enjoyed it and will probably play it again someday. Wonderful, dreamlike music though.
p.s.The last boss on Fable?...What a joke. I expect to die at least three times before I beat a final boss.
Aha, probably. I just kept wondering around looking for bad guys to kill. I wanted to see how strong I got until the next big serious fight, but turns out I never got there. I think I bought a new game, that's why I put FF8 down.
I forgot to mention Morrowind, which I don't even want to know how many hours I played that game, only because it's probably a severe headache inducing high hour...and that's just damn depressing.
Well I finally picked the game up and i've played it for about 5 hours already and I have to say...It's a great experience! Now i have never actually played an RPG game before, even though this is probably more of a action game. Honestly I am struggling at this game when i gotta beat this huge king of his sister guy!! O well more practice i'll get it down. But so far this is a very fun game and I would recommend it! Graphics and Music are incredible though just to add!
