The only reason Tony's SUDDEN arrival bothered me is because this is supposed to be real time. But you're right, Imprezu...it's TV. Suspension of disbelief and all...
Tony is back in Season 3 as head of CTU, but due to many complicated events that happened at the END of Season 3, the last we saw of him was that he was being held for TREASON. The preview for next week seemed to point this out, so I'll tip you off in advance.
If you want more detailed synopses of the past seasons, Fox's 24 website is good:
no i dont want any more info than that...lol...i am going back and watching em on dvd.I am just finishing season 2 tonight...the last 2 episodes exactly. Then on t season 3.I cant wait to see how season 2 ends let alone 3 and 4.I thought by now i would bauered out...but i am not even close.

I've become a HUGE Kiefer Sutherland fan after four seasons of 24. I've never really cared one way or the other about most of his movies (I like "The Lost Boys" and I really liked him in "Phone Booth") but now I'm convinced he's a fine actor. My wife finds him to be a hottie.

I watched almost every episode of the first season. It was different and exciting. Then season 2 started and the propaghanda machine started rolling. Hooray! Another piece of American television designed to fan the flames of hatred. The Nazis got nothing on Hollywood.

You can take from it what u want...But if u believe that people take more than entertainment from the show then u are wrong. It is strictly for entertainment purposes.
Oh yes thats right...I hate terrorists because Jack bauer hates them. Not everyone is stupid, most can make up their own mind about things.

While I pretty much share Imprezu's response to Filmore here, there's a certain sense in which I worry that the flames of hatred will be fanned by small-minded people watching 24. I share Imprezu's claim that he (and I, and the others on this thread) can make up his own mind, but I also think there are a whole lot of people out there who DON'T do that. I think that's why people have been critical of the show for pointing fingers at Muslims (although the primary baddies in Season 3 were Mexican drug dealers and British mercenaries) for being terrorists.
I don't really care to play the political correctness game, though. But I think there ARE shallow minded people out there who might take MORE from the show than just entertainment. People like that, however, should be locked up for being morons.
As far as the "propaganda machine," I'm not sure what to say about that. I always find those kinds of arguments a little bit paranoid...that doesn't mean they're false, but how can you prove that it's propaganda and not merely a plot device? During the Cold War, the bad guys were always Russians. Now, during our present world situation, it's Muslims vs. the West. Propaganda may be involved...but I'm not sure why it can't simply be a narrative device.

Woohoo.I love this show.If this part of the propaganda machine...let it roll baby.
PE of course is right once again.People who take anything more than a good time from this show should be locked up.If a fictional tv show helps you or helps fuel your hate for anyone.Than u have some serious problems.
I cant wait to see whathappens with the terrorist famiy. Will they split up?Will the son go to the cops...or at least try?
I think the wife is dead...but there is a huge picture ahead for the son.

I just watched till season 2 and it's "dirty bomb" usage. I haven't seen the new Muslim shows. But they're smarter than just trying to make you hate muslims. They show you all these scenarios and how th egov't works to stop them encouraging anyone who watches to give up whatever money and freedom they can to ensure the gov't keeps doing its job. Pretty much all of TV these days is designed to make the people unquestioning, idiotic wallets with voting arms.
It's funny you say that, Filmore, because I see it slightly differently. I see one of the primary messages of the show as highlighting the role of the individual in the chain of government. Jack Bauer disobeys the orders of his superiors so frequently, it's hard to see the show as a zombie pro-government propaganda. I'm not saying I agree with Jack's moral compass, but I see the show as an argument of that sort: that superior orders are always subject to questioning and moral assessment, and that Jack's moral compass is his guide even when he must go against the wishes of his boss, or the President.
I think many of the elements of the show seem to point out the ineptness of the government and the inability of the government to effectively do its job. The fact that moles are continually getting into CTU strike me as a non-ringing endorsement of government quality controls.

As far as TV and all mass media being used to "brainwash" people, that's been going for longer than I've been alive. It's up to people to understand what they're being fed, and I don't come across too many who fall for it, and if they do, I give them "shock treatment" to open their eyes. "24" is just trying to be a topical political/cop thriller with a psycho hero, and it works quite well in that regard.

pE, you commented that moles keep getting into CTU. I had this feeling too after the revealing of Aisha Tyler as the mole. But were there ever actually true moles inside CTU before this season? Season 3 spoiler ahead. Imprezu, don't read: The mole last season turned out to be working with Jack and truly a good guy. Did I miss something or were my "mole" feelings correct as well?
p.s. Imprezu, if it's too much for you to resist, let me know and I will edit it out after pE responds.

Yea, well you see this one? This was my dream, my wish....and it didn't come true. So I'm taking it back, I'm taking them all back. -Face
The mole in season One was Nina Myers. There wasn't a CTU mole in Season Two, although Marie Warner was a pseudo-mole of sorts. In season 3, you're right about the spoiler...but there were other "insider" activities not in CTU...
Someone tell me how to do the black spoiler stuff. I can't figure it out...

Okay PE, at the top of the post a reply screen there are a bunch of little buttons to do things with your text and insert smileys. The second button from the left is the "change color" button. Click it and then click on black and type your text in the space provided and it will turn out completely black and unable to read.

I watched most of last nights episode, seeing as how it is getting so much acclaim here. It was actually much better than what I expected from Fox. Seeing as how I have jumped in during the middle of the (four???) I don't think I can ever know what is going on, but still a very interesting program.
