I was sooooooooooooooo wanting to see Donald Sutherland be Jack's father! Was anyone else praying for that? Oh well. Anyone else notice how much Jack's nephew looks like him? Some nice Bauer family intrigue to go along with the rest of the story.

It's not the weakest for me, though I think it's moving far too slowly. I think the weakest season was S4. I also didn't care for S2. I'll keep watching, though, because I love the show.
I didn't like how Martha Logan and Aaron Pierce were depicted in last night's show. I lost a lot of sympathy for Martha and gained some for Charles. Go figure, right?

Atomic bombs detonated, two Presidents "assassinated", characters acting out of character, a father killing his son, waffling politicians, scary veeps, another international incident at an embassy, Jack gradually coming around to thinking he can "do it still"? Plus a bit more humanization of many of the characters. All in a little over 12 hours. Subjectivity again.

We've seen atomic bombs detonated on US soil. We've seen PLENTY of presidential assassination attempts, we've seen an attack on an embassy, we've seen a father figure of Jack's turn evil before.
I think the only really new thing that happened this season was Jack shooting a coworker. The first four hours of this season were pretty good, but after all that talk of "Jack is a changed man after being held in a Chinese prison" he has reverted to the exact same person he's been since season 4. Nothing fazes him at all.

I almost agree with you, but Jack would have been on top of the situation in the Russian embassy. Sure, he miraculously escaped again -- but the old Jack would have never let it come to that.

You're right, that's it, we've seen it all before. Still, I love 24 and I'll keep watching.
Even Jack shooting a coworker wasn't totally new, he executed Ryan Chapelle on David Palmer's orders, remember? That was a very tense scene for me.
Jack's turning into a sort of "terminator," yet I don't want to see Jack be soft, at least not for a whole season. Even though I'm a woman, I don't care for the "romantic" aspects of the show. I'm one woman who wasn't thrilled with the Tony/Michelle thing, though I think the actors were very good. Now, Jack being a changed man, unfocused, that would be good.
I really don't know what I want from the show at this point, just what I don't want. I think the writers are facing a very tough job, trying to give us something new and tense and yet trying to keep people in character.
I don't know what my problem is with 24. I think my expectations are too high. I watch reruns of Magnum, P.I. and Thomas Magnum is always Thomas Magnum and I don't get tired of it. I think I just expect far too much of 24. Maybe it's the advertising.

Yeah, I realized that about the Chappelle thing. So this season has done nothing at all original. Nothing.
I think I could care more about 24 if I could care more about the CTU employees. Say what you will about Tony and Michelle, they had personality. Edgar was great, too. They all got killed off, leaving Chloe... who has been great, but now has been reduced to bitching at Morris about maybe drinking. Morris has a bit of an interesting character but he got caught up in a really lame subplot about his maybe drinking. And Nadia and Milo... all I can really say about them is that they're good-looking. They have no personaolities at all. Milo had more personality when he was in the first season.
If I could give a shit about the people in CTU, then Jack's robotic behavior wouldn't bug me so much, I don't think.

I started noticing that last season - the CTU employees all suck now. In that respect, the first three seasons were terrific. Tony, Michelle, George Mason (the best director of CTU ever), and Chase were all fun to watch. The mainstays of the past couple seasons (Curtis, Bill, Karen) are dull. Like you said, even Chloe's gotten boring to watch. Morris was cool at first, but the recovering alcoholic story is going nowhere as fast as the Chloe/Chase baby storyline from season 3.
Ricky Schroeder's new character seems a bit unhinged, so maybe he'll end up being alright.
This season's storyline (nuclear bombs, a presidential coup from the inside) seems very familiar to the far superior Season 2.

I loved George Mason. He was a terrific character. I used to love Chloe, but you two are right, they've done nothing good with her this season. Milo used to be okay, but now...blah.
I hope Rick Schroeder's character doesn't go the way of Lynn McGill (Sean Astin) last year. I don't even know why they bothered to bring him in. I like Sean Astin a lot, but they did nothing with his character. Nothing that would make us care, and then, he's gone.

Oh wait, it's because Heroes is on hiatus.
Man, I would've never thought Heroes would surpass 24 IMO, but it really has.

I didn't like the daddy and brother Bauer plot, but recently it just seems like the show is doing nothing new or exciting. The VP is ridiculously cartoonishly evil, and Jack's either getting up to old antics (breaking into consulates) or using mentally handicapped people to catch villains, while at CTU they've been searching for ANOTHER MOLE (!!!!!!) which is certainly a new plot element for CTU (it isn't.)

The show's going to be going in another direction and gathering steam for a very unexpected finale. I hope everyone who's been disappointed in it so far will give it another chance.
