I do remember being a very young man, going to the movie theater, not seeing A Goofy Movie. I do not feel that it was a mistake, because I really enjoyed the movie I viewed instead, but I can't help wondering what would have happened to me, what kind of a person I would have become, if I had seen this ravishingly beautiful tale of our beloved Goofy and his teenage son.
There are a lot of good Disney films. The Junglebook with its groovy songs and laid back bears, The Aristocats with its groovy songs and evil butlers, The Beauty and The Beast which is just a really cool story, and so on.
In animation I like the drawing to look a bit scruffy and old. There's more life to them that way. So old Disneys generally look pretty cool. The old ones often have the best music too. Being a jazz enthusiast, I particularly enjoy the scores of the already mentioned Jungle Book and Aristocats.
In spite of all this, my all time favourite Disney film has to be A Goofy Movie. Even though this was made as late as 1995, it has it all. Slightly sloppy animation, great humour, delightful music, Goofy being himself in the best possible way, and stuff. One thing I find utterly charming is the scenes where only the main characters move, and everything and everyone in the background is completely frozen (figuratively speaking). I haven't seen the original version, because the Norwegian actors are doing such a great job for once.
"[...]To all of which, I admit, I had nothing to answer, for it was but the truth. So I refrained from launching into useless palavers and quibbling, and, immediately drawing the two pistols which I had in my belt, I fired them both, by way of argument, into the faces of this droll fellow and his accomplice, which spared me the necessity of speech and ended the quarrel in the best possible way." - Louis Adhémar Timothée Le Golif
