I would imagine I'm significantly older than most on this site, but, compared to the great directors, Kevin Smith is definitely minor league. I made the mistake of buying Mallrats, and, I must say, what a waste. I have seen all his films other than Clerks 2 and Dogma does seem to be his most challenging effort and I liked it very much. I realize Smith went for the bucks with Clerks 2, but the Jay and Silent Bob thing has worn out its use as anything but a prop. He needs to do something different again, as he did in Dogma. For my money, our best comedic filmmaker at present is Wes Anderson.

I must say I'm not the biggest Kevin Smith fan in the world, but I did like, much to my astonishment, CLERKS II.
I don't know why that surprises me because I did like the original CLERKS, which still remains Smith's finest film.
He has had a real up and down career since. He's one of those, "When he's good, he's real, real good, but when he's bad, he's real, real bad."
CHASING AMY is the only other Smith film that I've seen that I've liked. I didn't see MALLRATS, JERSEY GIRL and JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK. I braved a picket line to see DOGMA, but must say that I hated that film so much I felt like joining the picketers.
