Anyone into Carlos Reygadas. He's Mexican, and only has two full length films as far as I'm aware - Japon and Batalla en el Cielo. Emotional experiences, to say the least...

JAPON was a film that was well reviewed and I missed it when it received a brief commercial run, but later caught up with it at the Museum of Modern Art. I must say I wasn't too impressed with it. Just a bit to abstruse for my tastes.

Because I didn't like Reygades, I missed his notorious BATTLE FOR HEAVEN when it had a brief theatrical run earlier this year. It was controversial because of its steamy sex scenes (which features full frontol nudity) between an older chauffer and the young, rich girl he drives around Mexico City.

I did get a chance to revisit it when the American Museum of the Museum Image screening it again and I was sorry I missed it. It was a real interesting film that touched on the relationship between the two protagonists and a backstory of a kidnapping the chauffer was involved in. A real sleeper film that is well worth looking out for in your local video store, assuming they will stock it.
