I normally try to go by what I admire the most in making such decisions, which I guess is really a combintation of the two anyway, but who am I to say.
There's really nothing stopping you from voting twice if you're split, then justifying why.
I chose the Golden Heart Trilogy because Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark were two of the most emotionally wrenching films that I've watched in the past 10 years.
Actually, I believe our software only allows one vote per user/IP. I voted. My favorite work of his is The Kingdom, and then probably Zooropa, aka Europa. I decided The Kingdom was "Other".

I agree with your selection NBultler, but not because of The Idiots, whose title seemed to refer to the filmmakers also. Von Trier is a very good director I reckon, but he does appear to be enslaved at times by the power he has to manipulate an audience. Anyway, that's my dos centimos...

I voted for what you call "The Golden Heart" Triology. I loved BREAKING THE WAVES and liked DANCER IN THE DARK and THE IDIOTS, but Von Trier lost me with DOGVILLE & MANDERLAY, which I found pompous and pretentious and virtually unwatchable. I caught the latter film at the New York Film Festival and had a better time counting all the people who walked out before the film ended than I did watch what went on on the big screen.
I wonder how Opie, aka Ron Howard, felt about his daughter, Bryce Dallas, baring all for the world to see?
