On a seperate note. I was watching Rushmore this evening and I noticed that the coach sounded a lot like Owen Wilson, like EXACTLY like him. Well, I check the credits and sure enough, he was a Wilson. However, he was ANDREW Wilson, whom I've never heard of. Anyone know anything about the guy? Is he the one that can't act? I am pulling up his filmography on rottentomatoes.com and it says...:

he was in Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, and The Big Bounce. What a shocker, all of these movies his bros played in. Well, the guy just must not have any talent.

Best line in the movie comes out of that scene.

I really hate to post so much, especially when I seem to kill the conversation, but did anyone know that Wes is going to direct Fantastic Mr. Fox? The book was written by Roald Dahl and was an extremely popular childs book. Its been reported that he will use the stop-motion animation that was used for the fishies on The Life Aquatic. Hopefully its good, a little insiders scoop is here.

This is my personal ranking of his films:

1. Rushmore
2. Life Aquatic
3. Tenenbaums
4. Bottle Rocket

I like his movies because the rich, white characters are people I can identify with.

I intentionally left it untranslatable, but it's in reference to Buck's reasons for liking Anderson flicks. It was also not meant to be THAT serious.

I have to admit, I don't think I get Wes Anderson. I loved "Bottlerocket" initially, but after seeing "Tenenbaums" and "Life Aquatic", I like it a whole lot less. He creates two dimensional characters and places them in impossibly ornate and obsessive mileaus, and the whole thing never really seems to add up to anything substantial. It's like eye candy for OCD nerds.

Ah, the other Anderson. I have seen all his films on original release and like his namesake, P.T., I find Wes to be going steadily downhill after a promising start.

BOTTLE ROCKET is a nice little film that launched the careers of the Wilson brothers. A nice film that was followed by what I consider to be Wes Anderson's masterpiece, RUSHMORE. I was completely blown away by the originality of this film and thought both the very dead pan Bill Murray and the nerdy Jason Schwartzman were very, very good.

However, post RUSHMORE, I haven't liked either of Anderson's films. I thought THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS was labored and strained and it just didn't work for me. And I thought THE LIFE AQUATIC was way, way over the top and too puerile and silly for me to get into.

I'm a big fan of Wes Anderson's films, but I agree with others that "The Life Aquatic" was a letdown after the other three films. It's also the first film Anderson's made without Owen Wilson as a co-Screenwriter. I think Owen Wilson may have had more to do with the greatness of those first three films than Anderson.

It is interesting to note that Anderson's screenwriting partner on LIFE AQUATIC was Noah Baumbach, writer & directer of the well-received THE SQUID & THE WHALE, currently in theatres now.
