I'm not old enough to have seen "Dementia 13" in the theatre (well, maybe I am, but...I wonder, did anyone see it there?); I saw it several times on "Creature Features" on TV before I went to college, so I know what you're talking about. Coppola didn't seem to be paying homage to his mentor Roger Corman, at least not to start; he seemed more interested in acknowledging Roman Polanski's "Knife in the Water" and Rene Clement's "Purple Noon." Of course, later on the Poe/Corman references "surfaced", so I guess Roger must have been proud. I really need to watch "Dementia 13" again because much of the "plot" eludes me now.
EDIT- Oh well, my bro got a DVD of "Dementia 13" from the 99 Cent Store, so now the plot is clear as a bell. Yes, Coppola accomplishes quite a bit in three days in Ireland, but even "Bad Taste", such as it is, is "better."

k-i-a, this is still about PJ. We just started comparing his first film, "Bad Taste", to Coppola's first, "Dementia 13." I was hoping to get some responses about other PJ films, so I appreciated Magnolia's and Carol's responses. Do you or anyone else have anything to share about his pre-LOTR films or his upcoming "King Kong"?

Does it seem funny to anyone else that Peter and Raimi both started violently, and went on to Direct some of the biggest($$) movies in the past few years. I don't know, but, if you're an aspiring director, it seems like gore is a good place to start.
I've not paid a great deal of attention to news regarding Jackson's King Kong remake because I was frankly dubious, but I have to say the trailer is quite good.
I didn't realize it was set in the same period as the original. Nice touch, that.

The only films I've seen of Mr.Jackson's are "Heavenly Creatures", which was pretty amazing, and the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, which I think to be one of the best shots at epic filmmaking in some time. And his new "Kong" looks like it might turn the whole monster genre on its ear. I think this guy's a major talent.
What i like about him is that he puts a lot of effort into his movies (Lord of the Rings) to really make them as good as they can be. And has anyone noticed how he made cameos in LOTR 1 & 2? I bet he did in the third one too, but i havent heard anything about it.
