My favourite director is without a doubt, the King of Magic, the Prince of Weird: Mr Tim Burton!
My favourite films of his include, in that order:
1. Edward Scissorhands
2. Batman Returns
3. Beetlejuice
4. Pee Wee's Big Adventure
5. Ed Wood

Even though his last films have not been his best, who cares? He still rules!

My favorites are "Batman"(1989), "Batman Returns", "Sleepy Hollow" and "Ed Wood." "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is obviously Burton's baby, even if he didn't direct it. I also love his two early shorts, "Vincent" and "Frankenweenie." I believe the combo of Burton, Johnny Depp, and Danny Elfman almost rivals that of Hitchcock, James Stewart, Cary Grant or Anthony Perkins, and Bernard Herrmann.

How do you feel about Mr Burton directing a remake of the classic fantasy Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory?

It can be seen in some of his best films that Tim Burton has been a bit influenced by the original film starring Gene Wilder so it is bound to be a very personal project.

Johnny Depp will play Willy Wonka and I believe that the music will be provided by Danny Elfman (at least I hope so!!) Razzer

If you would like to share any comments on this project or if you have more info on it, please feel free to tell us here! Smiler

Imdb confirms that Burton, Depp and Elfman are currently working on the remake. You can find more info at this. Note the title will be that of Roald Dahl's original. Also note that Christopher Lee is in the cast, but they don't list his role.

I never thought that anyone could improve on Gene Wilder's performance as Willy Wonka, but perhaps Johnny Depp is up to it.

I think Lee plays the role of the creepy rival of Wonka (sorry, the name escapes me). Im not sure, but that would be my guess.

As for Burton, I love him. But, I do think if this new flick isnt up to par Im going to lose what respect I have for him. I adore his older work, but it seems though hes losing his magic touch. "Big Fish" was good but not great and "Planet of the Apes" was awful.

His best film? Id go with "Scissorhands" with "Pee Wee" coming in a close sencond.

my favorite films of his would have to be "Edaward Sisscorhands", "Sleepy Hollow", "Batman", and "Ed Wood". I am also a big fan of "Vincent", which I first watched on the DVD of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (which I love), and "Frankenweenie", which is also on that DVD, but I saw it before we got the DVD.

Thanks for the link mark F. Personnally, I don't know if Johnny Depp can put up a better performance than Wilder but whatever he's gonna do it's bound to be original and great.

By the way, thanks Ginny, didn't know you could find Frankenweenie and Vincent on that DVD, cool! Cool Now I know what I'm gonna get for Christmas...or Halloween!?

Hmmm ... I kind of hope Christopher Lee plays Charlie's grandfather. I like Christopher Lee and would like to see him play someone nice for a change.

David Kelly, a 75-year-old Irish actor you may have seen in "Waking Ned Devine" and "The Matchmaker" plays Grandpa Joe. I still don't know about Mr. Lee.

Ah ha ... oh well, it doesn't matter, I love Tim Burton, but I do NOT agree with the idea of a remake of Willy Wonka. Make something NEW ... or remake something that was bad the first time into something good. There's already a WIlly Wonka film that is good, we don't need another one!

True,

just look at the last remake Tim did: Planet of the Apes!!!!

I just hope he doesn't screw it up, but I think he's talented enough not to do that
and with such a good cast, I don't see how he could

I just watched Batman Returns today (though I've seen it before), and it's still great.

His films have a certain magic to them. I love it.

I reserve the right to be entirely wrong.

Compman, you're damn right it's still great!

I saw it not long ago and, I have to say, for a film where people are dressed in black catsuits and bat costumes, where a Penguin-man runs for mayor it still kicks major ass!

Even though the film was made in 1990, the special effects still look impressive and the film itself makes you feel like you're inside a gothic fairytale!

For me, Batman Returns is, still now after Spiderman, X-Men etc... the best comic book adaptation ever.

Tim Burton is amazing. He is unique in his movies and always portraits fantasy like movies the have their own effect on you in their own way. They are all so unique and yet the same. I loved and have seen many of his movies as Nightmare before christmas, Mars attacks, Sleepy Hollow and Big fish.

Batman
Edward Scissorhands
Ed Wood
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Beetlejuice

I also love Vincent. I think it probably gives a good depiction of what Burton was like when he was a kid.

Tim Burton is one of my favourites. Nightmare before Christmas is a great movie, along with Sleepy Hollow. His upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is going to be amazing.

It SHOULD be amazing and I sure hope it will be but lets not forget the last remake he did: Planet Of The Apes.
I believe Tim Burton could do an excellent job with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory if he uses the magic he used in Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas but I still have this small fear that it will be another Planet OT Apes, lets hope not.

Anyway, a bad film from Tim Burton is still better than most films!

I've seen the trailer and it definitely looks like a Tim Burton film. It looks really cool. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. Too bad it doesn't come out until next year (July.)
