I am researching male and female directors, and I am wondering why female directors are so sparse. Is it that they are not best suited to the part of being a director? Or is it that the sexism in the industry is preventing them from achieving there potential?
I personally feel that women directors are only just beginning to come out of the wood work. Due to the resent changes in society and that we will see more in the future.
I have found all but a few female directors that have had some sucess in the mainstream market, 'Bend it like Beckham' 2002 is one directed by Gurinder Chadha and 'Lost in Translation' 2003 directed by Sophia Coppola.
Can anyone recommend any other examples of female directors that have made it in the mainstream world of cinema?
If you could get back to me that would be great! Thanks!
