Yes, I know they started the decline in quality television. But, there has to be some good ones?

The only one I like is Last Comic Standing.

What are some of your faves?

I thought "good reality TV shows" was an oxymoron.

Eccentro, being an old fart, I can only comment based on my stubborn, heartfelt and steadfast rule. Since I've never watched a "reality show", unless you count live sports or something like Jeopardy!, then I'd have to ignorantly (but quite correctly) say they all suck. Eccentro, if you really are 14, keep up the good work, but consider writing some songs or stories/poems occasionally.

So, eccentro, are you the red-vested boy? Maybe I should discuss this at the other website. I love photography and have probably taken 10,000+ 35-millimeter photographs. The fact that I think they're all awesome but nobody but my friends and family know about them must have something to do with sloth or ignorance.I did notice that the website had a copyright date starting at 2000. Do you feel like sharing what that means?

I'm actually going to reply the thread topic, how 'bout that?

Real World (the original....still a classic)
Big Brother 2 (or 3...the one with the evil doctor)
Survivor All-Stars
Temptation Island I (funny as hell)
The Restaurant
Amazing Race (I tried out for the second one with a friend...didn't make it)
Combat Missions (watched by very few, but a great show... Sadly, one of the stars of that show, a former Navy SEAL, was one of the 4 guys murdered in Falusia [sp?] and dragged through the streets -- Scott Halvenston, I think)

if you look closer the copyright is 2000-2004----and, no, I have no idea what that means.

The Red-Vested Boy is my younger brother, Max, who modeled for me in Chicago.

Glad ya checked out my work. Id strongly encourage you to get an account (free) and post your photographs!

That seems to be the case----most of the time. What's different about "LCS" is that it scraps the sappy melodrama for real, genuine laughs. Sure, you learn about the people (who they are, why theyre comedians etc.) but thats just to add a layer of depth, to make you root for your favorite. But, at the end it's all about the performances and the chuckles you got from them.

For someone who sees little hope for reality TV Id check this out!

The Amazing Race!!!!

The Amazing Race is the best reality show ever, with the best reality show host ever.

I don't know how to explain why, except maybe that the frenetic pace and constant activity cuts a certain amount of the melodrama and you get to see interesting parts of other countries. Also the people aren't in their own bubble, they are out interacting with the world and not just each other.

I also like the Real World/Road Rules Challenges, because those people have been on reality shows so damn long, it's like watching your relatives or something, you end up seeing them so often. I don't know, I feel more vested in them somehow knowing I've watched them on several shows now and will most likely see them again ... and again ... and again.

Mark, why so much skepticism (sp?) about my age?

No skepticism whatsoever. You shared info on the intro webpage, and I for one, at least noticed it. I have nothing negative to say. I just think that it's interesting that based on what people have shared, I'm the old fart around here, and you're the young man. To me that brings us closer together. I have no bad thoughts about you or anyone else here. If I did, I would take a hike from these forums. I feel like you guys/gals are an extra family for me. Hey, I have my own family, but I accept that everybody has to de-stress in their own ways. Some people have a problem with my bluntness or sarcasm, but if you actually read what I say, I'm only trying to be informative, entertaining and/or amusing. Maybe I have a lousy sense of humor. Later, Gator, and after while, you other crocodiles.

Oh OK. I know this is off topic and should be posted on the other thread...BUT...its a quick question so no harm to anyone.

Which film reference books did you edit?

This is the scary part. I edited The Film Buff's Bible after the fact; it thus became The Film Buff's Checklist. Although, I still have about 6,000 pages of computer printout, those books basically became dated when IMDB started their website. Now the fact that their website is completely lacking in some of the company which I worked for's info (The Hollywood Film Archive), doesn't seem to matter to anyone. IMDB said they'd add our info but they wouldn't pay for it. No thanks. It's about at this time that I became a free agent, but unfortunately you haven't read any of my criticisms or seen any movies which I've scripted. Well, Scarlett O'Hara assures me that tomorrow is another day.

Eccentro, always do the best you can the earliest you can. You'll never know that life has passed you by until it's probably too late (at least in one way or another.) That's why I say keep up the good work, no matter what it is.

Hey guys, don't mean to interrupt, but we really do need to keep things on topic. It sounds like you are having an interesting discussion, but it may be discouraging people from reading and posting on the actual topic of the thread.

Thanks!

Is there a way we can move the topics???

Because, "Introductions" might be a good place to move this conversation.

Eh, what makes a reality host that great? They all seem sort of the same to me. Even in LCS, the painfully unfunny Jay Mohr just kind of stands there and holds a microphone.

I can move the thread, but not into another thread that already exists, unfortunately. But I think "introductions" would be a fine place to go if you want to move the discussion there. Smiler

I like Phil, the host of the Amazing Race, because he's from New Zealand and I love listening to his accent, which is really superficial, but also because he doesn't try too hard or insert himself into the show too much, yet he isn't completely boring either.

I think it's mostly the accent, now that I think of it. Smiler He does a lot of voice overs, and I know he's good when I don't mind listening to the same explanation of the rules every week. And he's pretty cute, which is nice since most reality hosts are bimbo-looking women or ratty-looking guys, but that might mean nothing to you. Wink

So my reasons are actually pretty shallow, but what can ya do?

Completely ignore any positive remark I made towards "Last Comic Standing". Though it's funny it's also very corrupt. Instead of picking "the funniest person in America" the judges must consult with the producers to see which comics are interesting. I know I am naive to think otherwise, but I had so much hope that this show wasnt just about ratings.

And, oh, am I dissapointed.

Dang! I was meaning to watch that but forgot! That's the problem with good shows on "low-profile" channels... And Entertainment Weekly's movie guide didn't highlight it, which is my usual weekly reminder to tape stuff.. Oh well....
