I've always thought Monday was an untapped market for quality shows. Usually they stick "24" there for the winter, but the rest of the year it's pretty crappy.

This season, Fox had "Prison Break" on Monday, which is great, and they let "Arrested Development" die a slow death there.
I find Monday's big show, "CSI: Miami" hard to watch. It's pretty, and I like crime shows, but outside of Emily Proctor, I find none of the characters likeable or interesting. David Caruso has none of the traits that make William Petersen so endearing on the original "CSI."
Bob...if you are really in a Thursday logjam, I'd invest in a TiVo or satellite DVR. It's nice to simply automatically record shows to watch at your leisure, particularly in the summer and during rerun times (like now!)

I agree about CSI: Miami. I tried to like it when it first came out...but Caruso just has this obnoxious smugness about him. (Add that on to the general lower plausibility the plots tend to have..)
I wish I could get Tivo, but when you're applying to grad school and only getting jobs through a temp agency in the meantime, it's not really an option. Especially with all the money I spend on CDs.
Luckily I can tape one channel and watch another with the magic 'TV/VCR' button on my remote!

I don't know, I kind of like David Caruso's character. He's more the "cop" where Petersen is more the "scientist." It's the NY edition I don't really like. But to get "on message," the night that usually wreaks havoc on me is Sunday night. That is usually when all the HBO shows are on, and as far as this season, "West Wing," "Desperate Housewives," "Grey's Anatomy," and "Extreme Home Makeover"(when I need to cry). I do have a DVR, but HBO makes it easy by replaying their shows twelve times a week!

...Notice anything in common? As of January, all but Amazing Race and the scifi shows are ALL ON THURSDAY!
I have noticed that too and I'm still wondering why they have to do that. Seems like thursday is a not so busy day and most of the people just stays at home.
I think "My Name is Earl" is almost as good as "The Office". I have to admit that when I first saw the promos for this show, it didn't appeal to me at all. After finally giving it a chance, I'd have to say that it's easily one of television's best comedies.

I'm not sure that I could survive without my DVR. There aren't really any interesting shows on right now. I must say, however, that I have a guilty pleasure right now, and that is "Beauty and the Geek," it amazes me that people are as moronic as displayed on the series.

All the big shows are on Thursday evenings for one major reason: Money. That's the most expensive night of the week, in terms of advertising because people do their weekend planning on a Thursday. If you want to sell something for people to do on a weekend, you have to advertise Thursday. By Friday, it's too late, because the weekend has already begun. So movie studios will pay a lot to run commercials on Thursday evening to try and get people to show up on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Generally, television networks can charge twice the normal rate on a Thursday than they charge on, say, a Monday. It's why NBC was willing to shell out $1 million per episode for each of the Friends cast. If you dominate Thursday night, you can still make money.
Another example: Grey's Anatomy is making the move from Sunday to Thursday next season. On Sunday evening, ABC charged about $300,000 per 30-second commercial during Grey's. On Thursday, ABC can charge $600,000 for 30-seconds during Grey's, even if Grey's loses a few million viewers to CSI on Thursday. That's because the Grey's Anatomy demographic is exactly what the movie studios and other big money advertisers want to pitch to.
