Already comparisons to Princess Bride (1987) are being made both as a compliment or as a way to diminish this movie's worthiness. Regardless, this movie is a fresh and intellectually wry vision on the romantic, fantasy fairytale. The movie's balance between serious physical fighting scenes and the more sophisticated humor is intriguing. Unlike Princess Bride, the primary characters are not quite as exaggerated and many are familiar archtypes from other movies. Unlike the forthcoming The Golden Compass (2007) that includes young actors and talking animals, this movie depends on its more narrow scope of the quest of discovering a new king as well as the often told love story. Whether or not this new fairy tale will reveal itself as a memorable classic will depend on how many audience members are sufficiently touched and require repeat viewing sometime in the future. I for one wouldn't hesitate to watch this movie when it comes out on DVD or even on a late night television station (if such old technology is used anymore).

??? All of the comparisons to THE PRINCESS BRIDE have been made in a complimentary fashion. Frankly, I hated BRIDE, but I'll probably see STARDUST.

I actually can understand why some people could hate The Princess Bride even though it stands as some sort of standard of epic fantasy fairy tales. The characters are overly exaggerated and the overall story is directed as a sort of off the wall comedy bringing out the more weird side of humanity. However, I find myself watching it in reruns at times for some reason.

Princess Bride is one of the more perfect movies out there.

This was a good, fun movie. De Niro's character could have used some work, but overall I liked the rest of it just fine. The book's better, but it made a good transition to film. Though the main character did remind me of Wilson from House...

Went & saw it today & loved every minute of it! It's a fantastically whimsical tale of adventure & love. A true fairy tale, in every sense.

"I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

Rented the dvd and really enjoyed Stardust. This was one flick I knew little about it advance (though I had seen previews months ago) and I confused it with The Golden Compass of which I've only seen the trailers. Good chemistry between the leads (and I've always loved Claire Daines as well as Michelle Pfeiffer). Blink and one misses Peter O'Toole.
