In my opinion, the only good matrix film was number 1. The others had pointless characters and the plot fell apart. It is just another example of how sequels can be soo bad.

How redundant is this question? It took me 3 viewings before I could even finish Reloaded, and I didn't even bother with Revolutions.

Seriously, I loved the first one, saw the second one opening night, hated it and never saw the third one till a couple days ago. I cant believe some people even compare 2 and 3 to 1.

I Think You Guys Are Being Rather Harsh On Reloaded And Revolutions I Agree Its Hard To Beat One Of The Best Films Of Our Time With The Matrix But They Did An Excellent Job Of Continuein The Plot And Had Much Better Effects In Plus It Involved You More Into The "Real" World Which I Thought Rocked!

As For Best Of The Three Id Say Reloaded With The Best Scene In The Film Being The Car Chase With The Keymaker Nothing On The First Film Can Compare To That One Scene!

I agree Reloaded was good and the car chase rocked. I think in Reloaded they did a goodjob of continuing the plot but the thing is: they messed it all up in Revolutions so all these good ideas amounted to nothing, which is too bad.

The first Matrix is undeniably the best of the 3.

I just saw Matrix Revolutions last night for the second time (shiver). I couldnt get through it all. Im sorry but this movie DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. It is absurd and becomes so stupid that it is just boring.

The original, obviously.

It's the only one with a storyline.

The only good Matrix was the first one in my opinion, and I think it was only good for its time. Maybe when I was younger that movie was in my top 10, but now that I have grown out of all that flying around, dodging bullets excitement, I think this movie wouldn't even make my top 100. Although, the first one was better than the other two. Those were a total flop.

As with most of the posts, the first Matrix had the sci-fi conceptual fluidity of the unknown and surrealistic, off-balance feel of a great movie. The third movie was intriguing in a different way - it had at times the feel of an epic fantasy Lord of the Rings invasion battle. The subsequent two movies were action-thrillers, not so much science fiction movies and probably need to be considered as such, if one is to really judge them.

I liked all three, but the first one was the best. Something about the one that gets me hooked in the series is always my favorite, I'm a sucker for that.

Overall, I enjoyed the first movie the best, when the story was still somewhat simple. Although I enjoyed the martial arts sequences more in the second film, they opened way too many loopholes in the story you just knew they would never be able to close in the final installment.

I agree, that was the big problem I think. Reloaded was pretty good but many new questions were asked, some twists were set up, a complex story was being set in motion...but in Revolutions, none of the question were answered, the story suddenly became simple (and B-movie-esque) and the ending is the flattest thing since the pancake. You can't end a trilogy with 2 old geezers saying "ba-byyee!". One thing that would have redeemed Revolutions maybe, is a twist right at the end, a good one. The Wachowskis should have phoned up M Night Shyamalan to help them with the 3rd act, no?
Oh well, it could have been the best sci-i trilogy ever but it's ultimately a flawed, uneven yet entertaining series of effects-laden sci-fi flicks. The first one is undoubtedly the best one, no question about it. Reloaded: great fun, action packed if flawed. Revolutions: a couple of good scenes (Smith's infamous "Mwahahahahahaha" being the highlight imo) but generally dull and disappointing.
Cool "Good...bye Mr Anderson..."

For me, The Matrix 2 and 3 were the biggest disappointments in movie history.

I was rather obsessed with the first one and needless to say, I was following the productions of the follow ups very closely.

I was at the first showing of #2 when it was released and man...words can't begin to describe the complete and utter disappointment I felt when I left the theater. I didn't even bother to go see 3 at the movies; I waited to rent it.

Not quite as disappointing as The Phantom Menace, but darn well close to it.

I loved ALL 3. They are, after all, one big movie, like, the Star Wars Saga or The Lord of the Rings. I'm actually confused as to why people hated the last two films. I'm having a hard time figuring out what makes the first so high above the others. After "The Matrix" hit the scene, you couldn't go anywhere without hearing how cool the special effects & action were. After I finally got to see it, I knew there would be a second, because, the first was an origin story. At the end, you see Neo fly up & you just know, the second movie, he's going to be UNSTOPPABLE.

Now, I bought the 10 disk set & it had a feature no other DVD has ever, or will ever have: a commentary with critics who HATED the films on every movie! It helped me to understand what their problems were, however, they were mostly just small ones. They loved the villians such as Smith, the Architect, & the Merovingian & hated the action scenes. They thought the highway chase in Reloaded was pointless because they couldn't understand why they were on the highway in the first place. It was made clear, if you paid attention- They were trying to make it to an outside line & the only one Link had, was off the freeway. They also thought Neo should have flown away right when he was surrounded by Smiths, however, they didn't ask themselves, why? Neo knew he could take Smith, he'd done it before, and where would the fun be in having him just fly away?

Now, I didn't like the extended, nasty party "RAVE" scene or the "LOVE" scene between Neo & Trinity, but, I understand what they were trying to say- Neo chooses Trinity over ALL. This is foreshadowing what Neo chooses at the end of the movie, when he must choose between Trinity's life or the lives of the people of Zion. That scene truly is the ONLY scene I don't like & wish was shorter.

In Revolutions I couldn't wait for the BIG WAR between man & machine in the heart of Zion. Just getting a glimpse of the war machine the soldier was wearing in the second movie made me eager to see it in action! The war was fantastic! So many Sentinals, so much time to enjoy them. Then you have the ULTIMATE BATTLE between Neo & Smith! Smith is now just as powerful as Neo & the battle was better than I ever imagined. They beat the snot out of each other!

All three films are consistant in their delivery. The action is just as good as in the first, in fact, there's more. You learn more about the characters & what's going on in their world. They enhance what you learned in the first film & expand on it. It really makes no sense why anyone wants to dog the last two films, I never hear any REAL VALID reasons except, "They suck" or "...dull & disappointing." When I don't like a movie I can tell you exactly what I didn't like about it. I never just say, "I just didn't like it." I let you know, that way there are no questions. How can movies filled to the brim with explosions, robots, & kung fu fighting be dull? When I went, I expected to see more of Neo's power, Zion, more amazing stunts, & more wild "Matrix" style effects. I was not disappointed.

This reminds me of when "Godzilla" came out in '98. A guy I worked with went to see it & came back with an awful review. I decided to check it out for myself & I wasn't disappointed in anyway. I expected to see a giant CG lizard stomp through New York City & I got just that. People love to talk so highly of the original "Godzilla" movie like it was some fantastic work of cinema. Really, I was bored whenever Godzilla himself wasn't on screen. Same here, except this time he looked ALOT better than some guy in a fake rubber suit. I went to work the next day & asked the guy if he'd seen or liked any of the past "Godzilla" movies & he said, "No, they're stupid." So, why did he think that he would like this one? He didn't have an answer.

When I go to a movie like "Godzilla", "Star Wars", or "The Matrix" I have certain expectations but, not high ones. I don't psych myself up into thinking I'm going to be blown away. I just look for story elements that I'm REALLY interested in. I REALLY only enjoyed the third act in the first movie. Don't get me wrong, I liked the whole thing but, I'll normally pop it in to start at the lobby shoot out, & that's all I expected the last two to be, A-C-T-I-O-N. What were you expecting?

"I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"
