I saw the movie and kinda liked it. Then I saw the TV series. Now I fucking love it. You should really watch the series before the movie. Some episodes are absolutely hilarious, others are like Westerns, some sci-fi horror; it's got everything. This is the single greatest sci-fi series of all time (all respect to Next Gen)!
Agreed. Initialy I thought Serenity was pretty good, but just didn't understand the 8+ IMDB rating and why so many rave about it. I finally watched the TV series, and it makes the movie infinitely better. Firefly is now probably my all time favororite sci-fi series, such a shame Fox cancelled it.

The bland cast had the feel of a cast of a TV series. The leader of the crew didn't have the gravitas a movie star requires to make it work on the big scren. This was just a dud.
Ditto. I thought the movie was a visual 'fart,' but I'm the first to say that I just don't get all of the admiration for Whedon, either. I think he writes relationships well, but I've never much cared for his premises.
^^^ I don't know. I think the Captain grows on you.

Never seen the series?! Mark, if you love the movie, you'll appreciate it even more after you've seen all the things the characters went through! Pretty much all of the character development is set up there. The Shepherd has a MUCH bigger part in the series & I was really disapointed he wasn't in the movie as much as I believe he should have been.

Hey, I already read that you said that. It's just the way I am. I'm a movie guy. I could watch the series, spread out over a month or two, or I could watch eight more movies. Like I said...the movie's good, as it is.

Alright. I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were missin'! I understand your point of view, but I can pretty much guarantee you'd watch the series in about 2 days. And that's takin' out for family time ! If I wasn't married with children, I'd have finished it in 1 day. It's only like 12 episodes. Maybe 13.

Its 14 and I finished the series in two days. I am unmarried and have no kids.
Both the movie and tv series are highly recommended. honestly, the tv series is 29.99 at amazon.com. If you spread it out, mark, it can work for you. I'm just sorry I missed out on this series when it originally aired.

I'm probably wasting my time here, but movies originally were serialized, so if you did watch Firefly, you would be enjoying a retro Saturday Afternoon movie experience!!
C'mon...c'mon...just reach for that Firefly box...go, on...you can do it...

Is it, mark? Because apparently they didn't think it was & have released an extended cut! WHY???!!! It's been out for years! I hadn't seen it until a few months ago & I JUST bought it! Why did they wait so friggin' long!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This happens every single time! Well, ALMOST every time. I'm still waiting for a nice & beefy "Kill Bill" Special Edition equal to what they did with "Pulp Fiction" & "Jackie Brown". When is that coming?!

Positive. It's 2 discs, HD-DVD & Blu-Ray DVD's hold waaaaay more info than regular DVD's making multi-disc sets a thing of the past once they take over. If this is one of the new formats, then that's a butt load of features! They are also around 30-50 bucks, this was only 20. Oh, and the final thing that proves to me it wasn't either HD format? It didn't have HD-DVD or Blu-Ray across the top of the cover! LOOK! It doesn't say "Extended Cut", but when I was reading the back of it, it mentioned that there were extended scenes. It didn't say how much, though. I could be wrong. They could just be deleted scenes, huh? Still, it's one more copy I GOTTA get! I ain't as crazy as some of the other fans, though. At Fireflyfans.net they're talking about buying bunches of copies in order to get the studio to green light a sequel in this thread!
