I was planning on avoiding this movie, expecting a flop that critics would blow off. But now it's got a 94 Metascore. I'm pretty surprised to say the least. Not a huge Star Trek fan but I think I need to see this now. What's everyone think about it?

We had no high expectations of the movie, but went to see it because the wife and I enjoy Star Trek.

I left impressed, certainly exceeded my expectations. The casting is great and the action moves at a nice pace with a defined direction.

Certainly this could be the start of a new generation of Star Trek movies, maybe not worth a 94....but pretty good and actually worth the trip to the movies to watch it.

Star Trek for a younger generation. There were many good points to speak of, though the movie isn't without its problems. The special effects and the visuals aren't necessarily the greatest though they are decent enough. The casting is surprisingly well matched though Chris Pine's portrayal of James T. Kirk, isn't my personal favorite and probably the weakest cast member. Star Trek is by no means a bad movie and holds up credibly well. A trip to the movie theater is likely worth it and has retained a high popular following, though it is likely not to be the blockbuster of the year nor the Academy Award nominee for very anything. But one can expect more Star Trek movies to come in this alternative universe of storylines.

Confused

[For new members posting on this site, it's much easier if one would post on an existing related site like Star Trek (2008) - ok it's supposed to 2009 so that readers and posters don't have to go from one thread to another thread to talk about basically the same movie. It's just more convenient and easier to hold a discussion that way.]

I am by no means a 'Trekkie' and I LOVED this movie...From beginning to end there is intense emotional moments, great action, great acting especially by the Spock character(he was well-written for the story, and the actor, the guy who plays Sylar in the TV series Heroes, pulls it off beautifully, and even manages to show different side than the Sylar we all know and love)...I do know enough about the Star Trek series to know there's a few pleasant surprises for 'Trekkies' as well...If you in any way like action movies or sci-fi, don't miss this one!

I found Star Trek just your average CGI movies, nothing special and a bit bland. Effects were great, cast well chosen but the movie was too short and the interaction of the crewmen was minimal, as normal today. Still, since the action was not as spectacular than in, say, transformers, the movie was pretty uninterresting. A bit of time travel doesn´t cut as a complex plot for me.

Don´t be suprised if sometime, somewhere, someplace when you least expect it, someone steps up to you and says:
