The Simpsons has lost so much quality, and Family Guy is just a mindless show for 12 year olds..... South Park should be included in the list.

the list of what?

If you mean shows that are past their prime, I wholeheartedly agree.

I don't think that gives Family Guy enough credit for being clever and for having more than dick and fart jokes. Of course, there are dick and fart jokes, but there's also a lot of really sharp pop culture jokes that 12 year olds won't get (Electric Company, Great Space Coaster, Meatballs, etc) and a lot of bizarre but funny bits (Peanut Butter and Jelly Time!) that are hilarious.

The old Simpsons episodes are very funny but as time goes on they get less and less funny. They've run out of ideas it's as simple as that. Family guy is quite new and has plenty of new material to play with. So my choice has to be Family Guy.

I kinda agree with you but it depends on what you mean by "old". The first couple seasons of the Simpsons definitely have become less funny.

Of course, the first couple seasons of Family Guy, looking back on them now, weren't very good either. The same goes for South Park, I never laughed harder than I did when I first saw the first episode nine years ago, but now I see it and I'm totally unimpressed.

Personally South Park is the same again and again of which is boring at least with the Simpsons they try to encorporate different scenarios such as Moe gettin with Marge and Maggie being more clever than Lisa etc.

South Park? You dare try to put a show with lousy animation & horrible humor next to two shows that HAVE made me laugh? I've been a Simpson fan since their Tracy Ullman days. Homer Jay Simpson is my all time favorite character from the main family. As for all of Springfield? It's a tie between the two biggest supervillians: Charles Montgomery Burns & Robert Underdunk Terwilliger aka Sideshow Bob. My favorite episodes being, 'Who Shot Mr. Burns?' 1 & 2, 'Cape Feare', 'Homer Defined, & 'Mountain of Madness'. I really don't know what everyone is talking about when they keep saying the show has slumped. I still laugh consistantly every Sunday & always look forward to new episodes. I do enjoy the occasional "Family Guy" episode every now & then (even if they have stolen a few jokes from "The Simpsons"). As for favorite characters, Stewie & Brian have a reporte that is just great! I'm really into the extreme comedy they come up with. Like the time Brian owed Stewie 50 bucks & Stewie became this vicious loan shark who beat the living crap outta poor Brian until he paid up. That was comic genius in my book! As far as which is better? Depends. They're two different kinds of shows. "The Simpsons" creators care for their characters & tend to make changes that really affect the show, such as: Milhouse's parents getting divorced, Lisa becoming a Buddihst Vegetarian, Bart disapointing Marge when he was caught stealing a video game, Apu getting married & committing adultery. The list can go on. As for "Family Guy", just outright zaniness! (What's with the giant chicken that pops outta nowhere & fights Peter?) I do like how goofy the show is but, there's never any heart in it. It's a true cartoon. Bart put it best, "Cartoons don't have to make any sense. They're just a bunch of stuff that happens."

"I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

I love both The Simpsons and Family Guy for different reasons, I think given the Simpsons massive run, it’s fair to say it has that classic value to it, but then again some might not really care, either way I’m sorry to say I really don’t enjoy the newer eps of the Simpsons, I absolutely love the first decade of their stuff, especially the first 7 seasons, but now it just feels forced and dragged on to me, however I consider those first 7 seasons the greatest and most classic comedy animation ever.

I almost always get a great laugh out of Family Guy, as previously said, I wouldn’t consider it to be as classic as the early series of The Simpsons, but there is still some awesome moments in there:

As we say amongst my brethren, those fight scenes are GOLD! I love the way Family Guy is just so remorselessly and utterly blunt! i.e: The episode where Peter starts his own religion based around the Fonz, at the end of the episode Peter, Brian and Peter’s father butcher Madonna for like a minute straight, the stuff they call her and accuse her of is pretty harsh, but I love the way they peg everyone down a notch, thinking about it right now is making me laugh, GOLD! But it’s not just the butchering of famous people that cracks me up, it’s their parodies from stuff like Indiana Jones, Nakid Gun, I also love the unique style of Peter’s stupidity, like that scene where he forgot how to sit, I also love how the show quite often replicates cliché arguments about common films or political issues, i.e the scene where the family are drowning together, and Peter confesses he doesn’t like ‘The Godfather’ series because it "insists" upon itself, which then starts a massive argument between him and the rest of the family.

The signature thing about Family Guy is their style of delivery; it’s usually set up by comparing one of the characters current situations to an event/person/character of which they then run a clip of that event/person/character to land the joke.

I don’t know about you guys but maybe the first “Simpsons” were filled with more jokes and one-liners but the later ones are no joke. Ha!

Well, what I am trying to say is that any Simpsons show—season 3 or season 12—is better than what “Family Guy” has to offer. That’s my opinion but then again I do think that “The Simpsons” is the best show of all time.

i prefer family guy because it is more my type of humor

i laugh more in family guy

peter griffin and homer simpson

family guy could have more originality in the story, but most of the jokes in family guy are from the random assortment of flashbacks

the simpsons could just go ahead and end, it was a great show but it's just runnin out of steam i think

Pulp Fiction (1994)

But I can't give you this case, it don't belong to me. Besides, I've already been through too much shit this morning over this case to hand it over to your dumb ass.

I love them both, but if you were to compare both of them CURRENTLY, Family Guy is much funnier. However, if you were to compare them over the course of each show in its entirety - you'd be hard pressed to find ANY show that could stand up to The Simpsons.

For my first post here, I would like to go on the record and say that I'm a total pussy, and that I pretty much like everything. The Simpsons is classic and it always makes me smile. Family Guy is filled with references that the pop culture enthusiast in me can relate to. But FG's gotten kind of "bloody" as of late, and I don't find that too funny. I don't mind violence - the Peter/Chicken fights are brilliant - but I just don't like it when, like, Peter knocks a guy to the ground, and then you see blood oozing around him. Seems kind of desperate-to-be-edgy. At least the Simpsons always seems effortless, even when it's floundering.

My favorite characters are moral compasses, Marge and Brian.

As for South Park, I've never watched it too much, but I've been watching it off and on over at South Park studios, and I gots to say, I'm liking it way more than I thought I would. It's not all shit jokes like I'd assumed. However, the eps. that get up their own ass with preachy messages aren't nearly as funny as the ones just about the boys. Season 4's "Cartman Joins NAMBLA" is the only one that's had me rolling on the floor in laughter so far...
