I saw the epesode last night with James Woods taking over Apus job at the Quickie-Mart, and it got me to thinkin' "Who does the best job of keepin' up with the Simpsons on thier home turf".

I loved all of the musicians in the Rock n' Roll Fantasy Camp show (title?) Jagger, Richards, Tom Petty, and Elvis Costello, among others, all played in that one.

My favorite bit from that ep was Elvis Costello trying to talk Homer into taking up the bass and Homer shrugging him off (he called him Poindexter!) and grabbing the guitar!!!

I also liked Stephen Hawking on the MENSA episode and Stephen Jay Gould in "Lisa's Angel." I teach a Gould paper in my Bioethics class and I always introduce it by pointing out he's the only author we'll read in the course (mostly philosophers but some scientists and MD's) who appeared on the Simpsons.

Yeah great episode, which brings me to mind of The who's guest spot. "Who huddle".

Hmmm....I can't think of favorite guest. But I was thinking about making a discussion for favorite "couch gags" and "chalk writings" in the beginning credits, but I figured they were too small things to make a whole thread for so maybe we could open this one up to include that, if that's ok??

If so, I don't have a favorite couch gag, but my favorite of Bart's chalkboard messages is the one that says:

"I WILL NOT WASTE CHALK"

I think this would make a fine seperate thread.
Further to this, perhaps it's time for The Simpsons to get thier own stream.
Off the top of my head, my favorite chalkboard joke is "I am not a 32 year old women".

We don't need three Simpsons threads BM, two is more than enough. Moving towards chalk talk now:

Goldfish don't bounce
This punishment is not boring and pointless
SpongeBob is not a contraceptive
Nobody reads these anymore
Hillbillies are people too.
I will not hide behind the Fifth Amendment(The original "I plead the fif!")

I meant thier own catagory somewhere, where Simpsons nuts like myself can go, sorta like the Spider-Man catagory, or the Srar wars catagory.
Oh well, maybe not.Ho-hum.

Which reminds me of the U2 guest spot...

"Potato Man!" and the spoon collection make me chuckle everytime.

And the REM visit..."that's not the REM way" as someone (Stipe?) breaks a bottle to attack Homer with...

Which in turn reminds of Stings guest appearance. Given the re-make/release of Band Aid, I think the song in this episode is very topical:

We're sending our love down that well
(All the way down.)

Marge: "Sting, you look tired. Maybe you should take a rest."
Sting: "Not while one of my fans needs me."
Marge: "Actually, I don't know if I've ever heard Bart play one of your albums."
Homer: "Shhhh. Marge, he's a good digger!"

When it comes to recurring characters, I have a very soft spot for Dr. Nick Riviera.

"Did you go to Hollywood Upstairs Medical College, too?"

Now Playing: "Your Adorable Beast" Bobby Bare Jr. From the End of Your Leash (Bloodshot)

The episode with Mel Gibson is awesome.

This is a paid political endorsement.

See my "Mel Gibson" topic in Actors.

Don't forget the Hullapalooza (sp?) episode, guys.

Peter Frampton: "God, Homer wrecks my pig, Cypress Hill steals my orchestra... and now Sonic Youth is in my cooler! Get out of there, you kids!"

Sonic Youth (can't remember which band member): "C'mon Mr. Frampton, you're not going to eat all that watermelon."

Frampton: "Please, I'm trying to perform!"

SY: "Go ahead. We'll stay here and guard your cooler."

My favorite guest is far better than all others i like too: the "Canyonero" song by Frank Williams jr. (or something like that). This song is catchy and really funny.

Personally, I'm partial to Danny DeVito as Uncy Herb. A few others are Meryl Streep as Rev. Lovejoy's daughter Jessica, Liz Taylor as Maggie's voice, Rod Steiger as Captain Tenille, and another favorite: Don Cheadle as Brother Faith.

I've not seen the British version of the Office, so I can only judge Gervais from his Simpsons episode. I'm not impressed...I thought the episode was lame. But I've heard he's funny on the Office, so I'll reserve judgment.
