I've been watching Simpsons regularly again this season, enjoying it for the most part.

I thought to myself... 'Maybe it hasn't gotten better, maybe I'm just no longer being overly harsh in judging it'.

So I saw an episode from four years ago in syndication. ..I wasn't judging it overly harsh. Four years ago, Simpsons was terrible.

But, now it's good again.

South Park ruined Family Guy for me though.

The episode where they're in the cave and Lisa is telling stories within stories was outstanding.

This season was pretty meh in the first half, but it got a lot better from the Christmas episode forward. They even had a good "The Simpsons are going to" episode recently in which they went to India, and those are usually terrible. The one earlier this season with Sideshow Bob in Italy was one of the worst Simpsons episodes ever.

I completely agree, I honestly cannot watch "Family Guy" now without thinking about how the jokes have nothing to do with the plot. I noticed that before the "South Park" episode, but afterwards it made me notice how cheap and pointless it really was.

Edit: As per "The Simpsons," I don't watch it regularly, but when I do it is very amusing. The last episode I saw involved Homer moving to India and proclaiming himself a god.

I have to agree that the episode with Sideshow Bob in Italy was no good. I just did not find murderous baby to be funny at all. I did not remember laughing on the inside even.

Still, I remain devoted to the show.

The Family Guy has good moments, but I do spend much of the time thinking 'huh?' while trying to make sense of it.

I care very little about plot. Family Guy could be twenty two minutes of "Family Guy" cutaway jokes with no plot. If the particular jokes are funny, then it's a good episode.

Lately, I've been finding all the cartoons to be funny: Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy, American Dad and King Of The Hill, which I am glad will not be cancelled.

I think the Family Guy episodes have been funny. I don't think Family Guy needs a strong central plotline because the cutaway jokes are usually genius. And I like the weird ones.

King of the Hill and the Simpsons usually suffer when the plotlines are bad (especially KOTH) but the cutaway jokes on both can be pretty good. I really like the Tom Petty character on KOTH...he cracks me up.

Tonight's episode of Simpsons? I honestly think is the best episode they've done since the Hank Scorpio episode in season 8. And the most intelligent.

They managed to say 'boys do generally do better in math than girls, and this is why' without seeming politically incorrect. Even South Park hasn't had the balls to do something like that.

--

King of the Hill is only bad when the focus too much on Bill or Dale. Bill or Dale were good characters at the beginning but became progressively more of an exaggeration of themselves as the series progressed.

Family Guy...it's not that it's not funny, it's just that the jokes have started to blend together a lot more. Whenever anything happens it comes off as a slight variation of well-established themes. Also, it used to help in Family Guy that the characters were likeable. Now...not remotely. There are some very good episodes near the beginning, that actually had cohesive themes like 'Death', Y2K, and reality television. But now...it's just mediocre with a few decent laughs per episode.

You are fucking high. Dale episodes are the very best. Bill episodes are kinda depressing. The worst episodes are Luanne episodes, followed by Peggy episodes.

Tonight's Simpsons was really great. Family Guy was ok. American Dad was excellent.

My fave part of tonight's Simpsons was the Itchy and Scratchy musical based on The Lion King and Jesus Christ Superstar . Cool

I like the Dale episodes. I think that Peggy's best in a sideplot but the Peggy-centric episodes usually suck. Luanne's been better with Lucky at her side recently. The Khan episodes always crack me up. I usually don't enjoy the Buck Strickland episodes, but last weeks was funny.

youve got some good points, man, but im gonna add my two cents. King of the hill isnt anywhere near as good as it used to be. Bill and Dale have become a lot less believable as characters and are turning into one-joke characters while they used to be a lot more layered. I dont know where it started, but i dont like how bobby and joseph have gotten. I almost wish they would do another two-parter, but it probably wouldnt get taken seriously and theres almost no way it would ever happen; theyve fallen into a notch that they cant get out of.

Nowadays i dont really care whether i see or miss a new family guy episode cuz its usually about 4 or 5 minutes of funny stuff surrounded by a lot of stuff that tries too hard.

One of the best aspects of King of the Hill is the usual believeability of the plots. There hasn't been a believeable Dale episode for years. And every Dale joke has turned into a 'Look how silly this man is' joke.

In general, in any show, I hate it when characters are reduced to gimmickry. And Dale has been.

Dale's gimmick is that he's always really funny.

I think they should turn that into an actual musical! I'd totally go to that!
One of the best episodes in recent memory!

One fun thing about the Simpsons at this point is that..they've long realized they're the Simpsons.

They didn't even really show things go back to normal at the school at the end of last week's episode. Because they know..they are the Simpsons. And it will just be assumed that it did.

Before I started watching Family Guy, The simpsons was my favorite show. It than switched to family guy and now has adapted to South Park. I totally agree in that after seeing that episode you can really see the pointlessness of the family guy jokes and how irrelevant they are (seals putting idea balls or w/e) Now most current south park episodes are much deeper than a random mash of fart jokes and kenny dieng. They take on current political issues, turn them funny, but still bring out the essence of the true meaning in it. I think that is pretty brilliant, rather than putting random words together to form jokes (which 3/4 out of the time are not funny) in family guy.

I thought the most recent one, where Marge gets amnesia, was another excellent episode. They're kind of on a hot streak, in the sense that they haven't had any really bad episodes since The Italian Bob.
