I am not positive if this topic exist already, but I haven't found it. What actor/actress is close to becoming a star? Also what actors have recently found the status?
As for actors who I expect to become "Big," I offer only two.
Steve Carell: didn't do anything until "Bruce Almighty" then "Anchorman" then "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," but he could be a great comedic star. It helps that he was a star on "The Daily Show" and now "The Office," both great shows, by the way.
Brandon Routh: Depending on how "Superman Returns" turns out.
I really think that Jack Black has found the spotlight. With "King Kong" under his belt he should become an "A-List" celebrity.

Definitely, he has proven he can be a secondary character in bruce almighty and anchorman and that he can be a leading character in 40-year-old Virgin. I suspect big things in his future.

I'd say people like Racheal McAdams, James McAvory and Shia LeBiouf(spelling?) are all likley to become big or popular.
Yeah, Rachel McAdams is definitely on a rocket to the top. She'll probably get more serious roles pretty soon. As for Shia LeBeouf (or whatever), I think his moment has come and gone. He was in that golf movie and Holes and it didnt really start any sort of fire. Lately people have been wondering when jennifer aniston will be able to be leading star of a movie. So far, only one i can think of where she was kind of the star was the Good Girl. Also, I'd like to see Jon Heder try a role that seperates him from his napoleon dynamite character.

A guy to keep your eye out for is French actor Melvil Poupard. I had never even heard of this guy until he popped up in a Benoit Jacquot film that didn't get a commercial release in the U.S. The Film Society of Lincoln Center mounted a Jacquot retro and I caught up with the film there. I forget the film's name, but it was based on a Marivaus play. It co-starred Virginia Ledoyan, who people might remember from the French film A SINGLE GIRL or the Hollywood film THE BEACH, which was Leonardo DiCaprio's first post TITANIC film.
In any event, I had never heard of Poupard until last month and then he pops up again as the protagonist in Francois Ozon's TIME TO LEAVE?\LE TEMPS QUI RESTE, which opened in the U.S. last weekend. He gives a good performance in a good film. I have no idea how good Poupard's English is, but he's a guy to keep your eye out for.
One of each. I think Zooey Deschanel has some breakout potential. So far, she always played sort of the same character, but she does it well. She also has a boatload in pre-production. An actor that I think is on his way is Peter Sarsgaard. He has loads of indie cred, and I think he has the potential to be a perennial Oscar contender.

Emily Blunt especially after the 2 Golden Globe nods, Abbie Cornish (Aussie actress from Candy and A Good Year), Martin Compston and Nathalie Press, who both star in Red Road, and all 4 kids from "I am Reed Fish" as in Schuyler (Sissy Spacek's daughter), Alexis (Rory from Gilmore Girls), Jay (Danger from M$B) & Victor (from Raising Victor Vargas).

Gotta agree she's a pretty good actress. She was great in that Jennifer Aniston film GOOD GIRL. I also caught up with ELF this month and she was also pretty good in that film.
