I really don't know what to say. He's been around forever and made many films which will continue to make people happy. There are so many. It's when these oldtimers die that I feel like it's a chance for some of my beloved younger friends to pay attention, but unfortunately, I never feel that to be the case.
I'm very happy that my daughter Sarah loves to watch movies, especially oldies, all by herself. I don't have to suggest anything. She's a great fan of art, photography, history, fashion, acting, music, AND film. She knows what she likes and why! She also understands that there no longer are any Bogies, both Hepburns, Guinneses, Tracys, Steigers, Bergmans(Ingrid), Grants, Stewarts, etc. She also knows that there are no more Hitchcocks, Kubricks, Wilders, Hustons, Chaplins, Keatons, Lloyds, etc.
Getting back to Glenn Ford. He was a wonderful personality. He had a sorta Jimmy Stewart/Henry Fonda Everyman quality. He had to do the dirty work. He could be sly, such as in the terrific
3:10 to Yuma, but usually he was upstanding. I especially liked his comedic roles. Things like
The Gazebo and
Teahouse of the August Moon.
Like I said. I don't know what to say. I'm sorta dumbfounded. I fear that many of my old-time faves will pass before me, and I'll be stuck with my foot in my mouth. All those who love film and life, please watch old films. This is probably the best place I know to find cinematic gold in old movies.
R.I.P. Mr. Ford
