I agree with you. It does show he has some acting muscle. It's to bad that they all came so close together. The only movies I am interested in seeing is I Heart Huckabees and Closer. Sky Captian maybe. Donna A. quote: Originally posted by Eccentro:

Sky Captain and the WOrld of Tomorrow
I Heart Huckabees
Alfie
Closer
The Aviator
The Series of Unfortuanate Events.
Im sorry but dont movies take a little longer than 2 weeks each??? I know they werent all probably done in the same time period that is A LOT Of movies by one actor released in a very short amount of time.
And the strange thing is all of those films were wonderfully original. You can argue about the quality but there as never been a film quite like any of the above six (with the exception of maybe "Alfie" but even that is a brave decision). I think Hollywood needs more Jude Laws!!!!
Life is to short to be crabby.

It is funny, but I recently watched GATTACA on video. I hadn't seen it since its original theatrical release, but that was the first time that Jude appeared on my radar scope. I thought he was destined for stardom and I was proved right.
However, he had better make some more astute career choices because the half-dozen films that came out in '04 tuned out to be stinkers.

You must a high standard and a film background, it must be hard to have to experience all these dismal movies. On the otherhand, in watching Jude Law in 2004, I don't count Lemony Snicket because of Jude Law's limited role to voicing a part and because I believe Jim Carrey over-extended himself in the number of roles he played in the movie. I Heart Huckabees though it wasn't my favorite movie, I'm impressed that Jude Law took on the antagonist role, only a secure, confident actor would be willing to potentially stain his standing with his fans by agreeing to portray himself as a golden executive that he did with flash and style. The movie dared, it was different, and experimental. As for Closer, The Aviator, and Alfie, I enjoyed each of them and thought they were decent, above average movies that had a certain sharp, stylistic flare.

Wow, you set the bar pretty low. I'll give you THE AVIATOR, which I thought was good, though not top-shelf Scorsese (though, admittedly he sets the bar petty high). Law was also very good in this film, playing a Erroll Flynn. Of the other two, I thought the ALFIE remake was a real dud, though if anyone could have pulled it off it would have been Jude Law. The original Alfie, with Michael Caine, was of its time and I'm afraid can't be duplicated. I also was real disappointed in CLOSER. I think it was just a strained attempt by the 70-ish Mike Nichols to remain topical. I just didn't buy this one. I think something was lost between stage and screen.

You may be right about the bar I set for enjoying movies. Principally, it's an emotional standard I use, if I experience a movie, many film experiences can get an emotional reaction from me, I look for and usually can experience a strong depth of feeling from movies, so when I get a strong reaction and I can get into the character and plot, I come away with a pretty satisfied sense of enjoyment. I don't have to analyze, judge, critique, and closely examine a number of movies if the movie overall really just becomes a wholistic, emotional, in tune experience for me.
