New York Post: Heath ledger Dead

This is very tragic, indeed. Frowner

"I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

Completely shocking news. It will be interesting to see what happens with The Dark Night.

A great loss to the film community.
He was a tremendous actor and I hope to god his daughter comes through this okay.

Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been,
Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene;
As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be,
So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

Well, some (somewhat) comforting news is that he didn't O.D. on illegal "crap". The poor guy had a severe sleeping disorder! It obviously wasn't suicide because he had a 3:00 massage scheduled and he was about to open as the BIG VILLAIN in his first real summer blockbuster, so it truly was a terrible accident. Frowner I was never a big fan of his (the only action movie he'd done was "The Patriot" and that wasn't all that great), but with him taking on the role of one of my favorite comic book villains, I'm sure he woulda been on my radar after this Summer!

Ledger will enter the stratosphere of movie cultdom when The Dark Knight lands.

Totally iconic role; and the celebrity of a young death.
So sad.

I heard about this yesterday and it surely was saddening and distressing news. Not only was Heath Ledger way too young but he had such a great potential. I really wonder how The Dark Knight will be released now; just last week at the movie theatre I saw a poster for the film with Ledger front and center as the Joker. It’s kind of eerie and the autopsy performed today proved to be inconclusive.

Many of the people that worked with him saw great things in his future including his The Patriot co-star, Mel Gibson. Just a couple of years ago he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his tremendous work in Brokeback Mountain. I do hope that the Academy does something special for him at this year’s Oscars.

It’s very bad news and my heart and prayers go out to his family and fans.

A terrible tragedy indeed. Another tragedy would be this Westboro Church News Release in which they state that they will picket his funeral. Absolutely disgusting. Is this what Jesus would do?

Edit: I just realized that some of the ads on that site can be a little NSFW. Warning!

What a crock! Mad Buncha self-rightous... Mad I honestly don't understand their friggin' mentality. How is this protected by Freedom of Speech? Picketing funerals is the lowest of lows and it makes me sick to my stomach to know there are actually those that consider themselves christians who do this. Has anyone considered picketing one of their funerals?

(I LOVE that after their criticism of Ledger's "sexual immorality" they have a vid to see Jessica Simpson in a wet t-shirt! Big Grin)

Well that was actually another site linking to that press release. They were disgusted as well. The Westboro Church's website is This . I'm so appalled I'm not even sure what to say.

Oh, I knew it wasn't originally posted there! Wink Sumpthin' told me I shoulda made the "they" a bit more specific. Smiler I don't need to view their actual site, but thanks anyway. Smiler I bet EVERYONE who's played a gay person is now freakin' out about those bastards showing up at their funeral! Jake Gyllenhaal, Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, Hank Azaria, Sean, Marlon and Keenan Ivory Wayans, Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Martin Donovan are just a few right off the top of my head! Then there's Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly who played the coolest Cool lesbian couple EVER in "Bound"! (If you ain't seen it, GO BUY IT TODAY! This is the movie that got the Wachowski Bros. the millions they needed to do "The Matrix"! Yes, it's that good.) It was already terrible that they were doing it to those who died in service to our country. It's just ridiculous that they now want to turn their attention towards actors. Do you think there will be any help from the Patriot Guard Riders or are they only doing this for soldiers? I mean, respect for the dead is respect for the dead no matter how (or where) you died, ain't it?

You wouldn't believe the crap goin' on in other forums with threads devoted to the death of this man! There are some RUDE folks on the 'net, that's for sure! This one gets waaaaay outta hand with people talking about how they didn't like his movies so he won't be missed or that he was an idiot for O.D.'ing and there are others trying to start a theoligical discussion. Roll Eyes Apparently, this isn't an isolated incident. It's happening in quite a few different forums! What is up with that? I'm sooooo glad we don't have a crapload of those kinda people 'round here. Could you imagine? Well, I guess you don't have to, I provided a link. Wink I'm not sure how long the link's going to be good for. There is alotta typing of it being deleted because of how off topic and rude the thread has become.

I'd just like to thank the members of Metacritic for being above this kinda awful behavior. I knew there was a reason I've hung around here for so long! Big Grin

Yeah monkey magic, two thumbs up for the community here. Big Grin
I've never posted on any other forum...I'm too scared to!
Some vicious buggers out there.

Roll on Dark Knight! ...and if you can, check out Two Hands, an excellent early Ledger film, showing his larrikin side.

If there is a Hell, there's no doubt in my mind that those Westboro Church people will end up there.

By the way, I understand the theory that "sins" will get you into hell, but portraying a sinner as an actor is just as bad? Does that mean that everyone who's ever been in Scorsese or Tarantino film is royally screwed?

Interesting point Eric, I don’t think there were any protesters at Chris Penn’s funeral since he was in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs.

It really is sad that the people going to the funeral to honor and remember Heath Ledger will have to deal with these kinds of morons. I know some people (in person) that won’t admit it but probably feel the same as these protestors but just won’t say it aloud. I am sure there are people out there thinking, “That’s what he gets for playing a gay cowboy.” Pathetic and sad but true.

Yeah, I think we're probably preaching to the choir with this discussion.

I also think if you're carrying any sign around that begins,"God Hates...," God probably isn't too thrilled with you either.

Rest In Peace, Heath Ledger.

He was a very talented actor. He'll definitely be missed.
