Paul Reubens is mostly known for his role as Pee Wee Herman in Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Big Top Pee-Wee and The Pee Wee television show. He was extremely succesful until..
In the late 80s, he was arrested for rude misconduct in a porno theatre. After that, his carrer went downhill and he gradually disappeared (even though he had some small parts in The Nightmare Before Christmas, Matilda, Batman Returns and Mystery Men).
Now, I am frankly disgusted by the way Hollywood used him then spat him out. He was a really funny guy with an original and sometimes hilarious humour.
Does anybody else miss him?

I definitely miss him! I loved Pee Wee's Big Adventure. It wasn't this cutesy thing movie that a lot of people perceived it as. All of his stuff has that ironic, perverse edge to it. It was extremely sad that his private life was exposed in that way. WOW! He was tossing off in a porno theater. What the hell else does one do in a porno theater??? He wasn't doing it out on main street or with some kid, etc. His credibility went UP in my book after that one. From what I've heard, back in the day, the media would "look the other way" when dealing with a celebrity's off-the-field activities (alcohol, sex, etc.), but our media-crazed culture won't allow that anymore.

Enough from me. Yes, Pee-Wee rules, and masterbation is not a crime! (at least not in my state...thank God!!)

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure was my favourite movie as a kid, I absolutely loved it! And you're right, it's not "cutesy" at all (just look at the Biker bar scene), I used to be terrified when Large Marge, the "ghost" who picks up Pee Wee when he's hitchhiking, turns around and her face is all messed up!
Did you see Big Top Pee-Wee, it wasn't a very good film (Tim Burton didn't direct this one) but Pee-Wee was great.
I saw Paul Reubens in Mystery Men recently and: he may have lost his fame and his...mind but he still has his talent.

I agree with everything you said Ray-Ray. To para-phrase Woody Allen' It's sex with someone very special. I'm curious what the person who spotted him was doing in the movie house in the first place, and how did he come to the conclusion as to what activity Reubens was endulging in? He wasn't <GASP> watchin' was he/she?

As far as I understood, he was set up by the cop who arrested him, who was off-duty and in the theatre for what reason? Hmmm? Perhaps the same one as Pee-Wee?! I have heard that he is working on a comeback project at the moment that should come out next year. I can't recall if it will be a film or tv project though.

Lest we forget his fine work in Cheech & Chong's Next Movie and Things Are Though All Over {one of the worst C&C movies...well, of any movie really}. He actually appeared as Pee-Wee in Next Movie. With the kind of money he was making, though, it was kind of a stupid move to jerk off in a porn theatre when you play a popular children's show character. His earlier stand-up work was much more preverse so I'm not quite sure why he decided to shove a bastardized version into mainstream America but them's the breaks. He could have afforded prostitutes let alone rental fees so I'll never understand why he went to a sleazy theatre. That was his own fault. The papers have never really looked the other way either. When John Lennon was busted for pot it was front page. Same with Robert Mitchum.

So,..um your saying that after a certain level of income is attained, you no longer have the right to manual pleasures? And don't say "Not in public" 'cause he wasn't in public. He was in a place where this kind of behaviuor is expected.

No, I'm saying that a)when you are a children's actor, maybe you shouldn't jerk off in public places because the public might not like that and b) why the hell didn't he just rent or buy porn instead, that was kind of stupid. It's not like he went to the peelers. He was jerking off in a big room surrounded by other men accessible by anyone old enough (that makes it public, it's open to the public). I'm not taking a moralist route, I'm just saying he shoulda seen it coming (hehehe).

I feel sort of bad for the guy. I think what he did was pretty disgusting and unnecessary, but it sort of screwed up his career for a while. What did you guys think of him in Blow?? I thought he was pretty awesome, I didn't even recognize him as Pee Wee at first.

So what are we condeming him for now, stupidity. Like he's the only one who's ever been stupid? He should have been smart, and picked up a prostitute, like Hugh Grant or Eddie Murphy, or Danny Bonaduce.
If you're not being moralistic, what are you being? If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck and looks like a duck, there's a good chance what you're looking at is a duck.
I also question wether he is indeed a childrens actor.
Oh, and perhaps just one more question. What do people go to porno houses for in the first place?

I'm not condemning him. What's wrong with you? I just told you why I thought it happened and why it was a bad decision on his part (one I'm sure he agrees with now). I don't give a rats ass if he wants to f*ck cows in Times Square. The fact remains he was starring in a TV series and a series of movies all MADE FOR CHILDREN and that's why conservative America rose such a fuss. Again, I'm not being morallist or defending what happened. I'm just telling you my thoughts on why. Seriously, what's wrong with you that you need to impose all this crap on me?

He was the bomb in Blow...

Again, what's wrong with you? What tone are you reading into my effort to explain what happened to him? You accused me of lying (duck) and then yell at me (!!!!!) when I ask why. Pull your head in, dude. I don't get you. I like the guy and you're attacking me like I'm the middle America that screwed him over. Seriously, what's wrong with you?

OK since we're stooping to the level of children, "Whats wrong with me?", what's wrong with you? I'm just tryin' to get what your on about. The more I try to understand your argument, the more it falls apart. The more it falls apart, the angrier your responses get. The angrier your responses get, the more defensive I get. What are YOU implying by asking me "Whats wrong with you?". This is a forum, and I am entitled to have an opinion, and to question yours. I have no idea were you stand on this issue, thanks to your contradictory responses, so I have no idea which side of the argument I'm on anymore. All I know is that I am currently involved in a disagreement with someone who dosn't like his opinions challenged, and gets narcy if they are. I'm going of to f**k a cow in time square now so I might be a while.

Yeah, Blow was a great role for him compared to Mystery Men. That film had its moments but overall....pretty stupid. That coulda killed his career more than anything 'caue everybody else in it (William H. Macy, Hank Azaria, Ben Stiller) are doing well. Someone's got to take the fall.
