I've only seen him in the bolded two, and also in Red Dragon, which wasn't particularly memorable.

For my money, he's one of the most underappreciated actors in Hollywood. His role in A.H.X. was some of the best acting I'd seen in a long time when I watched it. Even the sometimes-snooty Academy gave him an Oscar nomination for it. He was also good in Fight Club, which is probably what most people know know him best from.

But what has he been amazing in lately? Those two movies were from almost ten years ago. I think he has a lot of untapped potential, so I'd love to see him in a challenging role that'll test if he's still as good as back then.

Well, he's been cast as Bruce Banner in "The Incredible Hulk". Think that'll be challenging enough? Wink

Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

He was very good in 25th Hour and in a small roll in Kingdom of Heaven. He also was one of the only good things about The Score. I'm consistently impressed by his acting skills, personally. He's one of the best people working today.

I'd have to say he's my favorite actor from his generation, not just for his acting skills but also for the movies he chooses to do. Well, except for the fact I think he takes some movies just cause he's going for some kind of lifetime versatility award or something.

No one's mentioned Down in the Valley yet. I liked it much better than The Illusionist.

He was excellent in Primal Fear and Rounders, as well. I wouldn't call either of them great movies, but Norton took them up a notch.

I haven't seen The Painted Veil, but he's supposed to be great in that too.

Fight Club
American History X
The People Vs. Larry Flynt
Rounders
Death To Smoochy
Red Dragon

Honestly none of these are anywhere close to favorite films, but I do like him in all of them. I like him a lot in general really. AHX is probably the worst example of his talent IMO. His weasely voice and face and small body made it pretty hard for me to take him seriously a lot of the time for how buff and loud and angry he was trying to be. Or was. Or whatever. The part at the end where he's screaming "NO! NO!" over and over is what I mean, he sounds high pitched and girly. Death To Smoochy is probably my favorite film he's in.

As a friend commented once, "he's in everything". Ha.

i just came into this board to start this exact subject but someone beat me to it, I think Edward Norton in definitely one of the best, most underappriciated actors in Hollywood, he was amazing in A.H.X and Fight Club is another great example, every movie he's played in he's been great. I can't wait to see him play Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Jules: Normally, both your asses would be dead as fucking fried chicken, but you happen to pull this shit while I'm in a transitional period so I don't wanna kill you, I wanna help you. But I can't give you this case, it don't belong to me. Besides, I've already been through too much shit this morning over this case to hand it over to your dumb ass.

Ed norton is a genius at his craft. I remember reading an interview with him after Fight Club and being so struck by his passion and dedication.

American History X is, imo, very close to a perfectly made film, and he is sublime in role.

three cheers for Ed NOrton!!

if the sky were to open up there would be no rule, no law. only you and your memories.

I so so agree I remember the first film I sow of his was Keeping The Faith when is was previewed on Tv and I thought it was funny quite a standard film, didn't really pay attention to Norton, then my sis brought home American History x and was like yeah thats the guy from keeping the faith so could not believe it for him to change so drastically for a movie, he was amazing in that film.I agree he is not given enough credit but a lot of talented people are no, i am actually looking forward to the new Hulk movie!

The Painted Veil w/ E. Norton. It was an amazing film in my opinion and solidifed my thought that he is the most underrated actor in Hollywood, but I don't think he much cares anyway. Before that I had only seen him in Italian Job and The Illusionist.

I remember seeing him in Primal Fear and thinking who is this guy!?! At the time, I wasn't aware it was his first role. He definitely has one of the more impressive bodies of work for actors his age.

I can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed every film that I’ve seen Edward Norton in. Some were more memorable then others, among my favorites are Fight Club, American History X, and Primal Fear. Although I did enjoy The Italian Job, I’d have to say that so far, it was my least favorite of Ed’s performances, not to say that it was bad, but his character didn’t really interest me, or didn’t really seem memorable.

Apparently, from what I’ve heard (rumours passed down through the film industry), he is extremely meticulous, and likes to do as many takes in as many different ways as possible. I wonder, has anyone else heard or read this anywhere before?

Imagine everything I say as if it were being spoken to you with the voice of Joe Pesci.

My top fave Edward Norton movies:

5. Hulk - As of this writing, this movie hasn't come out yet, but I'm putting it on my list cuz based on the fact that Edward Norton is such a great actor & reportedly, he put so much energy & effort into the making this the best that could possibly be (that is, according to what I've read). That kind of dedication to a comicbook based superhero is rare & therefor, for a comicbook geek such as myself, is greatly appreciated.
If it turns out to be a piece of crap,
then just ignore this entry.

4. Primal Fear - A very so-so courtroom drama/mystery, but with a great acting debut by Mr. Norton.

3. Rounders - "Geev dat man hees mannee."

2. American History X - Had a hard time deciding whether this or the next entry was my favorite Norton flick.

1. The Score - I really enjoy hiest movies & the mark of a good quality one are twists & unexpected turns that tend take place during the central caper-theme of the movie. For me, this movie delivers in those aspects but with the additive of performances by Robert DeNiro, Marlon Brando & especially a stand-out by Ed Norton.

"Criticism is the laziest form of expression ." - some deep dude.

In spite of Hollywood's addiction to looks over substance, the cream always rises to the top, ala. Nicholson, Hoffman, Pacino. Norton is one of those actors of such substance he cannot be denied great roles. He revealed tremendous versatility playing the emotional con artist in Primal Fear and then burning a hole into our social psyche with the pre-converted character in American History X.

Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!
