I have seen her in 3 movies so far.

1. Titanic- I saw this when I was younger but I believe she did win best actress and remember her being good.

2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind- One of my all time favorite movies. She did an excellent job of transforming herself into Clementine.

3. Finding Neverland- One of my favorite movies of the year. Believable accent and obviously very good acting.

What do people think of her as an actress?

Yeah those are also the only films I saw of her.
Eternal Sunshine is also one of my favourite films and she was brilliant, very Jim Carrey-like! And I'm sure I'm not the only one to have had a crush on her after seeing the movie!
She was great in Finding Neverland too, very good film.
I think she should definitely win an oscar.

She's been fearless in independent movies, like the one she did with Harvey Keitel.

Have any of you ever seen an early Peter Jackson film called Heavenly Creatures?

It was one of Kate's earliest roles (possibly THE earliest) and she was fantastic!

Of course many of us have seen it. Yes, she was really good, and we all fell in love with her right there. I'd already fallen in love with PJ due to "Dead-Alive", "Meet the Feebles", "Bad Taste", etc., but none of them had anyone as attractive as Kate in them!

Well, she was born and raised in Reading, England, so that's pretty close. "Heavenly Creatures" was her first theatrical film, and she was 17 when she was cast.

In films since age 17? Then it's all the more remarkable that she comes across as someone who would join the gang in a trip to the pub.

I don't know what she's like in real life. Perhaps she's a sullen star. I think she has a child. But she seems more "up for anything" than other big name stars.

For my money, she is seriously one of the sexiest actresses working in film today. Some my favorite films of hers are:

Hideous Kinky
Hamlet
Quills
Holy Smoke
Eternal Sunshine...

It's been emotional.

She's proven it again in Little Children.

I've seen her in several movies. Didn't much care for her in Titanic, but loved her in everything else. I didn't like her character in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but I thought she did a terrific acting job.

I'm a woman, so she doesn't do it for me like Johnny Depp, but I do like her. She's obviously a very good actress.

My Kate Winslet "6 Degrees of Separation" story:

I was once engaged to a gorgeous young New Zealander, who had an Aunt and Uncle living on a small island in the harbour of Auckland.

Turned out that my girl's uncle was Kate Winslet's uncle also, and the lovely actress herself had only a few weeks previously been staying in the house, during the filming of Heavenly Creatures.

She had been particularly concerned when the family dog had jumped on her, worrying that she wld have scratches on her legs come filming...sweet...

Needless, to say, when I went to bed that night, it took me a while to get to sleep knowing that the fair Kate had slept on the very same sheets.....

...and no, I didn't think of Kate when, you know.... Big Grin

As an actress, I like her a lot.
