His mere prescence in a film sends tingles up my spine!
Max Von Sydow is great in "Hanna and her sisters" too! He is very versatile. I would have to say Sean Penn, Morgan Freeman, Ellen Burstyn and Philip Seymour Hoffman are amazing actors.

Welcome to the site, jack. Why weren't you (Jack Nance) on the list? I also want to bring Number 8 here to your attention, the one about not using all CAPS in your posts.

Most of the greats have already been mentioned, although not much has been said about Cary Grant or James Mason -- two actors that I consider along with James Stewart and Anthony Hopkins, to be among my favorites. Currently, I'm a big fan of Peter Sarsgaard, Campbell Scott, Christian Bale, and Tom Wilkinson, who have yet to be mentioned. Wilkinson's role in the film Normal was incredible, and each of the four can hold their own with anyone working today.
Additionally, I would add Emily Watson and Julliet Binoche to the list of actresses. Their performances in Breaking the Waves and Bleu, respectively, are some of the finest I can recall. I would also have to agree with someone who previously added Rita Hayworth -- great call. Other current actresses I really admire are Hope Davis, Joan Allen, and Scarlett Johansson.
