maybe it wasn't intentional but it was racist just the same,[independance day-1996]the part of will smith's girlfriend[the stripper]first of all why couldn't she have been his wife and even if still a girlfriend why not a classical dancer or teacher of dance..but noooo the blackman's woman got to be a hoochie and unmarried[yes i know that her character wasn't central to the story but she could've been given more respect!]

nah, more respect would've been wasted. the movie was cheesy to begin with and she was lucky enough to be cast, whatever her name is. as far as your charge of racism, its about as deep as her character.

Maybe the writers didn't want yet another lawyer or doctor or banker that you see in a lot of films.
I think it was a good idea, a coloured actress or not. How many times do you see that job in a film?

jar-jar was compared by one critic to stephen fetchit. jar-jar's speech and mannerisms appeared eerily reminiscent of america's first major black film star who made his name by mimicking the worse racial stereotypes. here is a write-up ---> NPR link

YOU LEAVE JAR JAR BINKS ALONE!!!!! He never did anything to you people! He was just a fish out of water in a world he never made! He was friend to the 2nd greatest Jedi to EVER where the robe: Obi-Wan Kenobi! (Yoda's the first!) It's not his fault he's so anti-social, he had ended up stranded on a deserted island with his mother and father for several years with his own dad calling him an imbecile trying to kill him and himself! (You try growing up normal with a childhood like that!) During the Battle of Naboo, Binks sent a buncha energy balls into a squad of battle droids and Armored Assault Tanks, which slowed down the Federation for awhile and allowed Gungans to escape! He also suggested giving emergency political powers to Palpatine in order to speed up the war. (Let's just ignore the fact that he ended up HELPING the enemy in destroying the Republic with this act. He was only doing what he thought to be right!) Don't forget when he bumped into that fat, blue elephant lookin' alien in Episode II! He politely said "exscuse me.", which is just good manners! He even participated in the parade at the end of Episode III to honor Padme's death! If it wasn't for Jar Jar the Empire woulda won! He has done soooo much and gotten soooo little! SO JUST LEAVE HIM ALONE! Mad

"I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

Wow, I'm glad you point that out. I'm really into identifying "hidden messages" to the public. So thanks for drawing that to my attention. Maybe it wasn't intentional, but it does have an effect on how some people may view black women... =\ Red Face
